For Saints it's do or die at this point, which isn't a style of football they've exactly excelled at in recent years. I figure it's either: going to go completely tits up for them, so used to more deliberate and calculated ways of Puel, and Pellegrino that they don't know how to play off the leash, and they'll be a mess. Or the sudden releasing of the shackles, the freedom to just screw tactics and organisation and just go out and play to score goals, will awaken something in them. There's sometimes something about the equation being shit or bust that releases pressure. And if there's one style of play we don't cope well against, it's aggressive attacking pressure. We'd prefer Saints to sit and ponder, because we're more used to picking that apart.

For us we've been plodding through recent weeks. Obviously our fans really want to win this, even if just to get the St Marys monkey off our backs, aside from the impact it has on their league position. I just hope Howe can get the squad as hyped up for it, because we've mostly lacked intensity for a while. They've been making all the right noises in the press, and they've had 10 days since last playing to prepare, but too often that means naff all come kickoff.

Just for the love of god Eddie, ditch King at number 10 behind Wilson. Just pick one of King or Wilson, and stop trying to crowbar them both into the same side. Why compromise King by using him as a link player, and also compromise Wilson by having King trying to make the same runs, when we've got actual link players we could use there like Ibe or Mousset, to better compliment whichever of King or Wilson we wish to pick. Round pegs, round holes.

Played well for 43 minutes of that half. Didn't look like a corner from my seat and of course they score from it but what fucking awful defending from our shower of shite players.

Battled well in that second half to give ourself the smallest chance. A fully deserved win.

Thought Saints worked hard and fought well, every loose ball was there's, as you might expect from a scrapping side. We didn't really look up for it in midfield, and at the back we made some comical errors.

Tadic always plays very well against us and its long bemused me to hear the abuse he's got this season. Quality player. Cook gifted him that second mind.

Disappointing to not really turn up at St Marys yet again, but at least we scored this time!

Swansea next for us, take it we'll have Southampton hanging off our result there. We'll need to do better than today I think!

We are far better with Tadic in the team than some greedy c*** like Boufal.

But yeah Mark, if you lot could pay us back the favour of the buckets and beat Stoke, that would be grand....

I didn't appreciate it at the time, but looking at some highlights - how good was McCarthy yesterday? Some big reflex saves. From behind the goal that deflected effort from Fraser right at the end looked in the top corner, but also there's several other excellent stops throughout the game that I didn't quite appreciate how good the chance was.

Perhaps makes it more frustrating, that despite playing so poorly and looking so second best, we still could so easily have come away with something. I hope McCarthy gets some credit from Saints fans who I understand haven't been too pleased with either of their keepers in recent times.

Hardly a bad word has been said about McCarthy really. My only criticism of him was that he was solid without pulling off the spectacular saves (which he did do yesterday and won us the three points). Most Saints fans have welcomed having him in the net after Frankenstein’s decline.

His best save was the one from Ake imo.
