As for the second paragraph, nobody is that stupid surely? You are confusing regional news with national news. Many regions of England have news at the same time. The issue is, so obviously, the 6-6:30 UK National News.

Just watch the one at 6:30 then? :dk:

I wonder how England fans would react about being repeatedly subjected to Barry Ferguson, Ally McCoist and Steven Thompson talking about Scotland during a Brazil Germany match.

If I was interested I'd watch it. If I wasn't then I wouldn't. :dk:

If Scotland were (still) in the competition and had an important game coming up then I'd understand why the BBC would be focusing on it/them in and around the game currently being played. Most of the people tuning in would expect them to, surely?

Yes, the extent to which this should be covered in the news is up for debate but generally yes.

Hence why having separate coverage is the answer.

What, you really think occasionally bringing up England (their failure to qualify and why etc.) in that situation is unreasonable given the demographic they're broadcasting to?

Again, yes. It was English pundits discussing England in a tournament they weren't in. Other home nations were not discussed to anywhere near the same extent.

Viewer wise obviously England will produce more than all the other home nations combined.

Hence why having separate coverage is the answer.

Oh my God....only an idiot would/could come away with such unadulterated shite. You do realise that not everything that is reported in the 'National UK' news is to do with NHS, schooling, Police....there are many many other happenings throughout the UK....however to have a problem with being interested in whatever whether it be NHS, education or Police outwith Scotland simply shows how narrow minded you are. A little Jocklander you certainly are!

You really are a fool. Scotland is not a region....it is a country which makes up part of the UK...a country, not a region. Scotland has its own regions within. What Reporting Scotland and STV news show are NATIONAL news programmes concentrating on Scotland. You did realise that didn't you ? You did say Scotland does not have its own news coverage....I have shown that they do.

There is no issue with the 6 - 6.30 UK national news programme. If people like you had their way and it was not shown the people in Scotland would not be aware of happenings outwith our wee glens of heather, kilts and Tam O'shanters.

This is the issue I have in any discussion, you don't understand even the most basic of concepts.

Of course not everything in the UK national news is about the NHS, Schooling or Police - this is an absurd idea nobody has stated. Obviously, certain news items covered do apply to all of the UK (e.g. armed forces, terrorism etc.). Again, it's a basic concept I shouldn't have to explain.

As for being "interested" in English and Welsh Healthcare, or Schooling, or Police - given they are completely separate for the Scottish equivalent why would you not have a news report on French schooling? It would be as relevant to Scottish viewers.

The second paragraph is even more incredible, never mind the straw man about Scotland being a country not a region. What do you think is being shown in England between 6:30-7? London News. Berkshire News. North East news. North west news. And whatever other variations they have. Obviously Scotland has 'regional' news that follows an identical format to what's mentioned above. I don't think the earlier poster thought we were shown BBC Newcastle in Scotland between 6:30-7. This is another basic concept I shouldn't have to explain.

The final paragraph highlights that you simply do not grasp the discussion at hand in the slightest. There are recurring aspects of national news, already mentioned, that do not impact Scotland at all. This is a recognised issue highlighted in an ofcom report the BBC have accepted and invested into a new channel. You might scream that it's not an issue but that's because you don't understand it.

That's a perfectly reasonable request to have, but why not raise it with the BBC/your government instead of filling this thread with all of this drivel? you posting it in here isn't going to bring about change lol

It's already being changed, as I alluded to in my link earlier.

My posts are to explain the situation referred to in the previous page as to why we have an issue with the coverage.

Just watch the one at 6:30 then? :dk:

If I was interested I'd watch it. If I wasn't then I wouldn't. :dk:

Then you would only get Scottish news, not international news.

Anyone who thinks this isn't an issue should really read the Ofcom report. People tune into BBC news 6-6:30 and, virtually every day, a news story only relevant to England and Wales is one of the headlines. This is demonstrably not equitable to the other regions of the UK, and the BBC (and ofcom) recognise this.

Anyway, as I said earlier, I am obviously interested in football but you have to make steps to avoid the English national team coverage even when watching completely different games in the World Cup. It doesn't have to be this way.

Someone else brought the conversation up and some English fans reacted with hostility to the idea that coverage should be more balanced. Hugh is just continuing the debate. It's a forum, conversations evolve.

Why are you? If not interested, don't post about it.

I don't know how it originated, but provides good context.

I wonder how England fans would react about being repeatedly subjected to Barry Ferguson, Ally McCoist and Steven Thompson talking about Scotland during a Brazil Germany match.

I came to here to read and post about the match, not to read about bitter jocks moaning because they only get 15 minutes coverage on the local BBC news. Either post something relevent about the game or piss off.

They wouldn't be, given that the majority of people they're broadcasting to are English, even without the club taking part. By the same logic, why do you think Manchester United and Liverpool get more games broadcast on Sky than Notts County?

And not only that, England not qualifying for the World Cup and Euros is unusual, that alone would lead to a level of discussion not received by the other home nations.

To be fair, I get pretty cheesed off whenever Nicola Sturgeon appears on my tv screen or SNP MPs vote on matters affecting mainly English people (the Heathrow runway debate for example). I wasnt particularly keen on Andy Gray or Alan Hansen having such prominent roles on the English premiership either. And I sometimes get a bit irritated that BBC’s weather more often than not begins in Scotland. And with a Scottish forecaster. But there you go, it’s part of the wider union.

In truth, I don’t begrudge Scotland coverage on national tv though I do “disengage” whenever there is a report just on that region which has no relevance to my life. But some people in the country (ie UK and Scots living in England) are interested so it’s not a problem.

I did used to object to the Republic of Ireland getting so much coverage and the beeb or itv actively supporting them. They aren’t part of the UK and our coverage should not be tailored that way in my opinion.

One side of my family is Welsh and they’ve never commented about media bias or feeling discriminated against by Westminster to me. But they are unionists and don’t represent all of Wales so I guess I haven’t seen the discontent there. *shrug*

Some real big jealousy from the jocks, I’d actually pity them slightly if they wasn’t so overly salty.
Funny enough I’ve always backed Scotland/Ireland/wales in qualifiers or when they have (rarely) got to major tournaments I cheered their goals and have always wanted the British nations to do well or qualify, after seeing how bitter they are towards England in the last few tournaments and this one I’ll be laughing at them failing from now on.
Jealous bastards.

Again, apologies for going off topic but this clown does NOT talk for the majority of Scots....simply a narrow minded Jocklander who is spouting garbage....

Oh I understand fully justy. You are proven to be incorrect then you deflect as is your want in every discussion where you have been shown up to be wrong. T'was yourself that alluded to the NHS, Policing, education in an earlier post and now add certain other criteria....Armed forces, terrorism etc.....make your mind up as you really are squirming and running out of ideas here. And no, you certainly do not have to explain as I understand fully your way of backing out by deflection. To even contemplate that a report on French schooling would be as relevant (or of interest.....my words) to Scotland as anywhere else in the UK merely shows how deluded you really are mate. This is the UK justy & France is not part of the UK....you are aware of that ?

Obviously Scotland has 'regional' news
No it doesn't it has NATIONAL news....why ? (You following me here ?).......because it is concerned with events, in the main, which are SCOTTISH. As in BBC Scotland's 'Reporting Scotland' and 'The Scottish News' on Scottish Television.

Oh please, do not try and grasp the upper hand. The last paragraph is to do with what is happening currently (could ou not work that out?) It is me that is saying I have no problem with the UK National News at 6pm....but the rest of my reply stands. And yes, I do actually understand. What happens in February 2019 (provisionally at the moment I believe) is that BBC are introducing a 'dedicated' BBC channel for Scotland between the hours of 7pm -midnight including a 'news' programme at 9pm covering International, UK & Scottish stories but.............and here's the fucking laughable part .....'told from a Scottish perspective'......

Falcao's complaint about the referee speaking English is ludicrous when you learn that he didn't seem to have an issue with a Mexican refereeing their game with Poland.

I don't think anyone can take Maradona seriously. In the space of 45 minutes in the game vs Nigeria he was seen being given a checkup by concerned medical staff to jumping up and down giving the V's to Nigerian officials.

The nerve of this overweight cheating cokehead to criticize referees for not doing their job properly.

You are right here, well partly. My mothers best friend is Scottish and one of my neighbours, they were worried(as they should have been) that they might have had to go back to that flea infested bin you fester in. Plus the amount you scrounge off us you'd be bankrupt in months. It'd be like Mad Max, only with a far less attractive cast.
Months aye sure, the most inventive country around and we'd go kaput without you lot. Haha  What would happen if we stopped redirecting our lochs for you, so you couldn't get access to our water? There's also another hosepipe ban right now as you can't seem to get on top of even having essentials for your population. These tories are doing wonders for you.

It's hard to describe my emotions when Dier put England through. What a feeling. What a great team work by Southgate. 12 years ago, when England last played a WC quarter-final, Eriksson said that he'd practiced penalties but nobody really took that seriously.
The way Kane and Rashford set the ball rolling by clinically despatching their spotkicks was a confidence-boaster and showed that if you're good enough you can score a spotkick even under this much pressure.

Really, really happy for England. I hope they win this part of the tournament but wouldn't enjoy a France vs England final. No, no, no!

Let's build a wall, who's with me???

We have the remains of a wall and Salty wouldn't dare try to cross it cos I'd take his whisky off him and punch him straight in the throat before marching him back up over.

Leo would be welcome though, I'd greet him with a bottle of broon and a saveloy dip.

I really hope that when it finally comes home we take the trophy on a tour of all home nations.

A once in a lifetime chance for many to see it, I'm sure you'll all agree.

And not only that, England not qualifying for the World Cup and Euros is unusual, that alone would lead to a level of discussion not received by the other home nations.

First of all, Sky as a commercial entity has no requirement nor interest in representing anything but what will make them the most money. They have absolutely no interest in Scottish football, and their coverage makes this abundantly clear. This will never change.

The BBC also broadcast to the 'majority' but the other home nations aren't small towns of 20,000 people. They are medium sized countries more than capable of having their own broadcasting. Again, far smaller nations manage it.

To be fair, I get pretty cheesed off whenever Nicola Sturgeon appears on my tv screen or SNP MPs vote on matters affecting mainly English people (the Heathrow runway debate for example). Interesting post, were you irritated by the amount of influence Alex Ferguson had on English football. Bill Shankly?

Both Gray and Hansen spent almost all their career in English football, I'm surprised any has an issue with them being pundits.

One of the major Scottish football pundits at the moment is Chris Sutton. I have no issue with him being English but to have an issue with his rampant stupidity.

Some real big jealousy from the jocks, I’d actually pity them slightly if they wasn’t so overly salty.

I'm always a bit disheartened when I see people of, say, England supporting Scotland. Maybe I assume football fans have more knowledge of footballing history than they actually do.

Before I continue trying to explain calculus to a dog, do you think BBC South West produces regional or national news?

I don't expect you will answer, but it will destroy whatever illusion of an argument you have.

The rivalry is probably viewed in England how, say, the England Germany rivalry is viewed in Germany. Or the England Argentina rivalry is viewed in Argentina.

You are a second rate rivalry, at best, to these nations.

Your pathetic attempts at haughtiness fail spectacularly. You are simply a chump who has been shown to be foolish. This BBC South West is a region of England which even you should realise is a country. Whereas BBC Scotland's Reporting Scotland and The Scottish News on Scottish Television are, well....news programmes which report on happenings in....er....Scotland....a country. The bottom line is, irrespective of your failures at deflection, you said Scotland does not get its own news programmes.......unfortunately for you it does.

Except BBC South West (as well as many other English regions) have their regional news programmes on at the same time as Reporting Scotland on BBC South West. They report on what is happening in that region. Hence why it is regional news. Scottish news in this sense is regional news that is reported on at the exact same time and in the exact same manner as BBC South West, or North East news, or whatever.

The finding that many headlines do not apply at all to Scotland was identified by Ofcom, and agreed by the BBC, and they are spending significant sums to fix it.

But, no, it must not be an issue because someone on a football forum with absolutely no grasp of the situation thinks it isn't an issue.

Who could be right?
