I can't see why you don't have your own completely separate news coverage already, I'd assumed that you had.

We do not, most news stories from the BBC 6pm and 10pm news do not apply to us, but are broadcast to us.

Seperate coverage of what though? Scotland players on their holiday?

Erm, of the World Cup. With Scottish pundits and Scottish commentators (or whomever, not even necessarily Scottish). Just unbiased reporting of the football, we could even share with the BBC some of their good stuff of the country itself but cut out the daily reporting from the "England Camp".

It's something far smaller nations seem more than capable of doing.

Why are Scottish & Welsh people getting referred to as twats and other lovely terms?

St Juste is boring, Scottish and a twat.

Haven't seen any Welsh people referred to as a twat but i'm sure there are plenty deserving.

They are incredibly sensitive, it seems.

And a lot of the posters here seem to thrive on childish insults.

Quite amusing really. They certainly don't actually want to discuss what has been posted.

I must admit, if I were from a country that hadn't qualified for a major tournament in two decades and I was forced to watch my hated neighbours do well in such a tournament, I'd probably latch onto the most tenuous of things to whine about like a little slapped bitch.

Cut them a bit of slack guys, it can't be easy.

This most tenuous of thing was highlighted by an Ofcom report a year and a half before the World Cup started.

Bar Carlos Valderamma and Rene Higuita, which Colombian footballer's hairstyle are you most fond of?

Take NHS, Justice or Schooling - any and all national news stories about these issues are about England and Wales, Scotland manages these things separately and these news stories don't apply in the slightest. Most 'headlines' don't apply to us - it's a ludicrous situation.
There is a bigger world out there and not all who live up here have such an insular mindset. You may not have any desire to avail yourself to the happenings outside Scotland but there is a majority who do! Ludicrous ? Get a life ffs. You are making mountains out of molehills.

I can't see why you don't have your own completely separate news coverage already, I'd assumed that you had.
Actually we do Steven (I know justy replied to you stating we do not but that is totally incorrect). At 1.30pm we have 15 minutes of Reporting Scotland on BBC1 every week day. At 6.30pm we have 30 minutes of Reporting Scotland on BBC1 every week day and also at 6.30pm on STV we have 30 minutes every week day.

Apologies for going off the thread topic but wrongs had to be righted.

I think a lot of you are missing the point, it doesn't come down to bitterness or jealousy of the English football team. The same gripe has been there regarding the BBC for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for as long I can remember.

I don't particularly have a problem with the English side being covered in between World Cup games as I understand the reality that the vast majority of the UK population is English and they are going to target that demographic when covering most topics. However, considering we all pay for the BBC and that this is a long-standing issue for the rest of the UK, it's perfectly reasonable to seek out more balanced coverage on every issue.

We have BBC NI, which covers Northern Irish news and sport, but it gets a very small amount of air-time and the vast majority of what we consume is London-centric. There is no other option for more balanced news and sport coverage. The major broadcaster in the UK doesn't do enough to respect its customers outside of England. I think that the BBC's coverage of England during the actual World Cup broadcast is pretty minor offence in this regard, but the rest of the UK should not have to be subjected to too much England coverage on their morning breakfast shows, radio and news. We are treated by the BBC as though we are English sports fans, when in reality the people in these three nations either don't give a fuck or want England to fail.

Erm, I'm not saying there should be no world news but the happenings of the England and Wales NHS (or schooling, or police) has no impact on Scotland. It's big news there, but completely irrelevant here. It would be like hearing about the French Health service, it means absolutely nothing to us. 20 out of 30 minutes of BBC News could cover "national" stories that do not impact us even slightly, this is clearly recognised as a problem hence the article I referred to earlier.

As for the second paragraph, nobody is that stupid surely? You are confusing regional news with national news. Many regions of England have news at the same time. The issue is, so obviously, the 6-6:30 UK National News.

You did realise that, right?

If not - wow.

I think England fans are a bit touchy to be honest — maybe because we’re so used to being let down or even humiliated on the biggest stage — but what did anyone honestly expect from the other home nations. It’s part of the banter and we’re not the most likeable nation even aside from the football.

Why are you talking about how much air time you get on BBC news in the England vs Colombia match thread?

...to not makes dozens of posts in England matchday threads, complaining that they're being subjected to the English national team too much.

Why are you? If not interested, don't post about it.

I don't know how it originated, but provides good context.

I wonder how England fans would react about being repeatedly subjected to Barry Ferguson, Ally McCoist and Steven Thompson talking about Scotland during a Brazil Germany match.

Well it is true generally, isn’t it even if they haven’t got much of a point in this particular situation. If I was a man united fan I wouldn’t pay much attention to what fans of championship side Blackburn Rovers said about us — is just enjoy the fact that we win the title most years.

In your hypothetical scenario, is Scotland in the tournament along with Germany and Brazil? A bit of a stretch to imagine, I grant you.

I don't particularly expect England fans to care. The sensible ones will recognise it, at the very least, but it's not their problem really.

I don't want or expect English coverage to change. I just want separate coverage, much smaller nations can manage it - why not Scotland / Wales / Northern Ireland? For those in these countries that still want English coverage it will be easily available to them to.

Nobody loses. Hopefully by the next world cup we can watch on the internet and can easily choose our coverage - Brazilian for me, helps me retain my Portuguese.

England weren't in Euro 2008 but we still had Lineker and Shearer talking about....England.

If Scotland were (still) in the competition and had an important game coming up then I'd understand why the BBC would be focusing on it/them in and around the game currently being played. Most of the people tuning in would expect them to, surely?

What, you really think occasionally bringing up England (their failure to qualify and why etc.) in that situation is unreasonable given the demographic they're broadcasting to?

Oh my God....only an idiot would/could come away with such unadulterated shite. You do realise that not everything that is reported in the 'National UK' news is to do with NHS, schooling, Police....there are many many other happenings throughout the UK....however to have a problem with being interested in whatever whether it be NHS, education or Police outwith Scotland simply shows how narrow minded you are. A little Jocklander you certainly are!

As for the second paragraph, nobody is that stupid surely? You are confusing regional news with national news. Many regions of England have news at the same time. The issue is, so obviously, the 6-6:30 UK National News.

You really are a fool. Scotland is not a region....it is a country which makes up part of the UK...a country, not a region. Scotland has its own regions within. What Reporting Scotland and STV news show are NATIONAL news programmes concentrating on Scotland. You did realise that didn't you ? You did say Scotland does not have its own news coverage....I have shown that they do.

There is no issue with the 6 - 6.30 UK national news programme. If people like you had their way and it was not shown the people in Scotland would not be aware of happenings outwith our wee glens of heather, kilts and Tam O'shanters.

That's a perfectly reasonable request to have, but why not raise it with the BBC/your government instead of filling this thread with all of this drivel? you posting it in here isn't going to bring about change lol
