Would rather Bury in L2 next season rather than a Flyde or another Salford. Although I guess you could argue that Bury were trying the same thing as those clubs just without the liquid assets. But ye, massive points deduction and only with a thoroughly vetted owner.

I don't think they should be allowed back in. I feel sorry for the fans and would hate to go through the same thing, but I think they should restart at NWCL level and win their way back up to the FL on the pitch.

Bury fans did not do enough to drive out their reckless owner while he was throwing money around on players they didn't have, getting them promoted unfairly. You did it over and over again and I hate how clubs like ours look after our finances to just survive whereas clubs like you just don't give a shit, you want success NOW NOW NOW! Instead of being patient and building a successful system and business model over time.

So for this I think you deserved to go bust and out of the league, so stop trying to claw your way back in and GET OVER IT.

Start clean, from scratch again.

I’m split on this as this wasn’t a case of overspending to chase the dream but an owner overspending to bankrupt the club for his own benefit.

I do think the argument that they’ve effectively finished 24th and should be relegated to League 2 next season is incorrect. They haven’t finished 24th as they’ve not even started the season - you can’t finish without starting.....

I’m not against them being in League 2 per se but it does set a dangerous precedent for future cases. If the EFL did their job in the first place and were equipped more fully to manage the league and its clubs then this wouldn’t have happened.

No.

The club duped its way to promotion on false pretences. It’s hardly the first time they’ve done it either

Down to the northern premier bury go.

Notts County spent a decent amount to go down last season, as did Chesterfield...

Scunny are doing what a few L1 sides have done and struggled first time down, we won our opening game of the season in our first spell down... managed 2 draws in the next 10/11 games. Plenty of time but seems to be one surprise package struggling each season currently. Everyone assumes Scunny will turn it around... as they did Chesterfield and Notts you just never know.

ANOTHER local team in the conference next season! Jeez!

No. Don't see why Bury would be kicked out the EFL to be welcomed back into the EFL the following season. Clubs in the National League are playing week in week out to try and get themselves promoted into this division and it wouldn't sit right with me if Bury were allowed to waltz back in and take a spot presumably meaning one of the teams a tier lower would have to miss out.

Agreed. Unless the lower tier team were Borehamwood...

Well the 24 league clubs you expect would say no, Mansfield for sure but other clubs will I dare say have an anger over it, not to mention clubs wanting the insurance of one less relegation spot. Imagine you back them coming back in then finish 23rd!

Seemed to be a fair bit of anger in league one about the farce it made the start of the league also and differing advantages etc.

I imagine with the club as far as I know far from secure still future wise it won’t be allowed to happen, you need to have the leagues set and what teams are aiming for so can’t have teams unsure what relegation zones consist of with the chance Bury won’t recover to take their place if granted.

I know for a fact at our recent fans forum, John Bowler and the Board were very vocal about Bury's promotion and said it should never have been allowed to happen. He also mentioned that a lot of other clubs in our division echoed this view and so I genuinely can't see them being reinstated.

All 24 in L2 will vote against for reasons of self-preservation or anger towards the farce of last season.

The only ones I can see vote for their reinstatement are fellow basket cases like Bolton and Coventry. Too many in L1 and L2 are angry how long this was allowed to go on and this means there genuinely is no way back as sad as that sounds.

Surely Bury will go bust which is very likely as they have no income and have still got winding up orders against them that they can’t or will not pay the 25% CVA or the football creditors.

Then how can they have a place in FL and why would a new club AFC Bury be given a place above any one else. They should start at least Step 5 of non league as per the FA rules re phoenix clubs.

However in these circumstances FL can ignore the FA rule but I don’t think they will.

Unfortunately I would be against it, If a club goes bust they should start again from Step 5 like any of the phoenix clubs before them. I do feel for the Bury fans but it is what it is.

Sadly I agree too, and although in the short term it would be hard to accept for Bury fans, a new club surely gives them a better start than just being parachuted back in to the FL.

A place in the football league has always been earnt.

Seems they vote on three options:

Keep 71 EFL teams (23 in L2 next year)

Relegate just 1 L2 side to regain the 72nd club

Keep 2 relegation spots and promote an extra NL club or reinstate Bury

Bury need option three but I would imagine the second option will almost certainly be the outcome.

Assume then if option three is not the preferred outcome that then ends the Bury saga in terms of the EFL and the 20/21 season set up is then decided?

If I remember this correctly, and I'm more than happy to be corrected on this, the National League's contract/agreement with the Football League is that they take two clubs at the end of every season. It's up to the National League where they put them, ergo whilst they accept them into their league, they can drop them into North/South divisions if they wish. This happened with Boston after their relegation from the Football League. The Conference wanted to remove them completely but couldn't due to the agreement, so they dropped them into the Conference North.

There's no reason (that I can see) that Bury can't apply to be that second team from the Football League and accept a place in the National League - be that National or North divisions - so long as they remain the same entity.

Whilst it's not the Football League - it's a damn sight better than Step 5 of the non-league pyramid. Also, no-one will miss out because they have to be parachuted in somewhere and there is one safe relegation spot right down to where they are dropped in.

That would only apply if Bury carried on as they are though with Dale as the current owner.

It's highly doubtful the current Bury will exist next season.

Bury bid rejected by the clubs and the option decided is one down from L2.

the correct decision has been made.

The EFL should have had the balls and not pass the buck to the clubs to decide.

A sad story for all concerned unfortunately, with nobody coming away in a good or positive light

Their rules I think said it should of gone to clubs first!

Can't say I blame you.
Turkeys don't vote for Christmas do they?

It’s not relevant either way.

Bury absolutely should be thrown out of the league, it shouldn’t have been the case clubs had to make the decision.

Right decision on Bury. Should have been two up from the Conference though, in my opinion. Devalues League Two's relegation battle and makes the season a hell of a lot more boring and will influence lineups towards the end of the season. Three up from the Conference has been discussed 'til the cows come home and this was a chance to give it a trial.

If you let three up this season it would set the precedent for them to try and get this permanent which no League Two chairman would want and it will make it more possible for them to go down in the coming years.

But they should want it. There is no sporting reason for it only being 2 up/2 down - it only remains as a form of protectionism by EFL members. I doubt this would happen but I’d hope my club would support 3 up/3 down even if we were ultimately to become a victim of it.

Oh yeah, I get this. I don't agree with it for the reasons Laker has touched upon. I don't think it would be a landslide were it to go to a vote of League 2 clubs. Plenty of returned BELTs and tinpotters in this division now who know how hard it is to get out of the fifth tier.

Take it back to one up/one down.

The best non-league team every year gets to try their hand at League football. Sounds fair to me.
