Aye, by all accounts there was only about 40 minutes between stepping off the coach and kick off. Been down in Newquay all week. Lots sat the game out as well.

Think we felt obliged to play this game more than anything. Not one to dwell on really.

Sounds like a couple of the games were arranged by the club without really thinking about the needs of the team, like the Wigan game.

Beat a Chester side that got off an 8 hour coach journey from Cornwall just before the match.

Your game at Newquay was on Tuesday so what has the squad been doing since then? Are they actually preparing properly for the season ahead, with about a quarter of the league matches to be played inside the first 6 weeks, or were they just on some sort of summer jolly? If it was an 8 hour journey and the squad only arrived 40 minutes before kick off that means they didn't leave Cornwall until 11am. Surely it would have been common sense to leave at 9 for instance if not the previous day? Dulwich had also travelled from London on the same day and used 20 players, so the result itself may not be of great significance - it's two teams who play at the same level - but I'd be concerned by the apparent lack of professionalism if that was my team.

Eleven first teamers starting and we've named a bench of 14 players with one trialist

Was a delay in leaving in the morning, not sure what.

The week was booked with two games pencilled in but only one materialised. Appeared to put in a solid week of training at least.

We beat Ilkeston 5-0 with old man trialist Nathan Tyson getting a hat trick.

Lost a total bore of a friendly 1-0 to Mansfield. Alistair Smith with the winner on 82 minutes

Decent exercise for both sides but largely uneventful.

Larkhall Athletic 1-1 Cardiff City U23s

Not the best game ever, but have to say that the ground was certainly impressive (if a bit of a climb to get there a la FGR and Chesterfield's old ground).

A Lee Tomlin penalty for Cardiff City U23s (why the heck are him and Gary Madine involved with the kids team - offload/loan out FGS!) was cancelled out by a late goal for Larkhall by Matt Britton (decent volley, has to be said).

Maidenhead won 1-0 at Bracknell today, and a second XI won 3-2 versus Ascot in a behind closed doors game. Three of our summer signings were completely absent from both games - not sure if injuries or something else going on.

We looked OK against Bracknell but lacked urgency and quality in the final third. Trialist forward upfront scored the goal - he has been playing semi-pro "soccer" in Nebraska - looked OK against a step 4 side but may struggle in the NL. Then again we need all the backup we can get upfront with Cassidy up there.

A team of a couple of first teamers (Hollis and Mandeville) and youngsters and trialists drew 4-4 away at Staveley MW.

4 penalties in the game which is a bit crazy. Staveley also broken their attendance record with 2147 there, considering they usually get about 100 I assume they are buzzing with that. Onto Hallam tomorrow and Matlock Tuesday which I expect will be a mix of first team and development squad.

Lost 4-0 to Boro this afternoon, some positive play from us and their keeper kept us out a few times but they were obviously miles ahead of us ability wise, like us playing the Northern League teams there's nowt to gauge from these results, the front two for them cost £20m combined, get a better idea where we're at with the York and Macclesfield friendlies.

We played Bolton wanderers today and won 1-0,never read anything into friendlies but Bolton will get relegated, score absolutely flattened them.
York’s finishing was awful.

Beat Curzon 2-0 yesterday. Very comfortable throughout and should have had more but for the crossbar and a couple of good saves from the keeper.

Goalscorer was Jake Kirby who got them both.

Played their U18s, didn't you?
Not what a Bolton told me after, but most looked young.
They seemed to get younger has game went on.
Apparently they have only just started training due to training ground issues and not paying wages, most from last year have left and all squad left played today.
Hard season for them.

It looks as if they are going to be taken over this week, hopefully better times ahead.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a few loan players join them - heard that James Garner (not Rockford btw) is being linked to The Trotters.

If most of the senior players from last season have left (i.e. those who were out of contract) and not yet been replaced that's probably the best they can muster right now. I believe Erhun Oztumer, who scored 30 goals in two seasons from midfield for Walsall before joining Bolton on a 2 year deal last summer is still there. He should have been good enough to step up to that level but he barely got a chance last season.

Think Oztumer is one of seven senior players still on Bolton's books. There's also Ben Alnwick, Jason Lowe, Luke Murphy, Remi Matthews, Josh Magennis and Connor Hall. The latter was the only one included at York at the weekend.

Beat a Wigan side 1 nil and lost to Preston 4 nil (could have been 10) starting to worry a bit now as we surely cannot start the season with 2 trialist goalkeepers. Jay lynch needs to make his mind up and quickly, otherwise not having a recognised goal keeper could wreck our season before its even started. The 2 trialists arent good enough. We've offered a contract to lynch ages ago so we'll left in limbo a bit now

We beat Hereford 2-1 at Bideford on Friday. Hereford tried to kick us off the park and our manager was pleased in a way as he says that's the sort of tactic we're going to face a lot this season.

There are quite a few teams in this division that try and play football to be honest. Then you have the likes of solihull, which will be far worse than anything Hereford did. They're full of 6 foot plus meat heads. If it moves it gets kicked or elbowed

You're not wrong there. We lost a player who was on fire until we played against them. He's been out until now. Might not get a contract until he can prove his fitness.

We’ve named a pretty strong line up vs Hallam FC tonight and amongst the team is a trialist called Anthony Spyrou. Ex Norwich City apparently, anyone know anything about him?

The worst thing about Solihull is they will kick the sh*t out of you. But they also have some decent players who take their chances.

Also their pitch is about as big as your Nans front room.

We had him on loan end of last season. That's about as much as any fan of ours could tell you.

We beat Altrincham 6-0 at the weekend. Quite surprised as they usually give us a fairly competitive game.
