There's an article on the BBC website highlighting Spurs' poor win ratio away to last season's top 6... one win from 17.

A joke thread. Though the joke will wear thin if the OP continues his tirade.

Always thought it was a joke that they got rid of Sherwood so early. Bring him back IMO

they have now dipped below Burnley with almost half the season gone - 7th in the table 21 points behind first place - you have low standards if you don't deem that chop worthy.

it's a sign of the times with this forum unfortunately paggy bear. on topic even winning their game in hand they are outside of 4th. this season should've been a comfortable top 4 finish building on last season - they are under performing - fax.

After 21 games:

2015/16 - 36 (Ended 3rd on 70 - very low points season for all the top 6)
2016/17 - 45 (Ended 2nd on 86 - this would have won them the league by 5 points the previous year)
2017/18 - 40 (????)

They really haven't regressed that much. Last season was title winning form. They were unlucky that Chelsea went on a ridiculous run which City are managing to surpass this year. Plus add into the fact that they've topped a tough Champions League group and I'd say their season is on par so far with the potential of it going either way.

4th place is normally around the mid 70s. With 17 games to go, they've got more than enough to propel themselves into the top 4. Recent history suggests they're better after Christmas anyway.

And they're also playing every home game at Wembley and the implications that has. Only a fool would say they need to replace the manager.

What a hype job this man is. If Spurs have anything about them they'll sack him.
This is a ridiculous overreaction :bang::bang: Mauricio Pochettino is one of the best coaches I’ve studied in the last 24 months. He is key to Spurs’ future too. Pochettino has a built a tremendous squad who must stay together.

I’m sorry if I’ve offended you, but I think my defence of Pochettino is deserved :err: I think you guys have overstepped in your criticism of a top manager.

Pochettino is a brilliant manager, I'd love to have him at United once Mourinho's reign comes to its inevitable successful and trouble-free end.

do you guys just suck in everything gary neville tells you? they've regressed. 86 points they finished on last season - they'd have to win all their games from now till end to match that this time around. Okay you can argue they overachieved last season and took advantage of shitteh & yernited being bad but it looks like they won't even get into the CL this time. If he was at a proper club he'd be a gonner.

Why are you comparing last season's Spurs to this season's Spurs? :hb:Take a look at the level of competition of their rivals versus last year. Look at the injuries of key players. Do you not see any of the great work Pochettino has done at Spurs?

I don't like watching Manchester United, which is a shame because their top players play with no freedom. There is great attacking potential there. While Spurs play to the best of what players they have.

Who would you say play the most attractive attacking football in the English Premier League?

I think it is masterminded by this genius, helped by the creative and attacking talent at his disposal

Yeah how ridiculous to compare last season to this season in an attempt to determine a measurement of performance - what an absolute fool I am. It doesn't matter that it's looking like they will miss out on the CL - thus increasing the likelihood of them losing their best players - nothing wrong with that at all - Poch is a genius - Gary Neville says so.

What are you saying?

That he is very successful. At a price, literally. He's never won a title without being the highest spending manager in the league in question (or at least in the top 2 -- Barcelona and Real were close at the time I believe). And that will continue this season.

No, you evaluate the team in the current season. Last year has come and gone my friend. They deserve to be exactly where they are right now. Does that make Pochettino a fraud? Never.

No, Pochettino is not a genius yet but Spurs would be fools to sack him this early.

We can’t blame him for that though - he has inherited three amazing squads, all cash rich clubs with a board 100% behind him. Do you think he’ll only prove his quality to you if he takes control of a Huddersfield or Brighton? :dk:

I think you calling him merely a “cheque book manager” is underrating his legacy as a football coach :lac: shame on you. Shame.

I've judged him on this season in the OP - he's under performing - hence most sides would remove an under performing manager.

I think you’ve sadly succumbed to the short sighted mentality of most fans these days :err: (mirrored at management level too) there is no rational argument for why Pochettino should be sacked right now.

I didn't say you could blame him. But as things stand he hasn't proven he has what it takes when he hasn't got more money than the other teams he's competing with. Look at last season for example. It was his first season at City, but he finished 15 points behind the title winners. He then goes out and spends £220m and is in the process of walking the title the this season. It's how he works.

I think you answered your dilemma in the middle of your sentence: "It was his first season at City to be fair, but". :conf:

It's also a vital skill identifying what type of players you need, recruiting the best options, and maximising the most out of your current players - which Pep has excelled at this season. Many managers had failed in all those regards (Wenger, Jose, Klopp...) spending £100m+ doesn't guarantee you success. But this current Manchester City team has Guardiola stamped all over it compared to last season's XI :2thumb:

Of the top six sides in the Premier League, Spurs quite comfortably spend the least on transfer fees and pay the lowest wages, don't they?

Pochettino isn't on the same paying field as Pep and Jose in terms of finances and personnel, not even close. Conte has a marginally better squad peppered with stars and can pay much higher wages. Both Klopp and Wenger can blow Spurs out of the water with signings when they need to as well.

Pochettino is performing above par every time Spurs finish higher than sixth - barring disastrous seasons by other clubs in that top five.
