Macc players once again have not been paid on time by the clubs owner.

Just shoot us in the head and put us out of our fucking misery.

Macc are a strong non league club and should stay there even if John Askey and Sol Cambell are good enough to keep them in league 2 somehow.
There doesn`t seem enough support for league football,

Their Chairman didn't even pay them on time in the NL so that's not really relevant.

If there was enough support he could pay them but there isn`t.

Sad state of affairs this. Proper football clubs going to the wall whilst pisspot little teams like Fleetwood flourish.

The support would be better if the fucknut of an owner would piss off. Even then maybe not enough to sustain long term league football, but would at least put someone in charge you could run the club properly and just live within our means whatever level that means playing at.

Proper club (still couldnt organise a piss up in a brewery re the turnstile fiasco of last season)
Would not wish what we are going through on anybody, even Noblot. (whos fans by and large have been superb with the old enemy)

Sad state of affairs for all concerned at Macc. Let's hope it affects your players tomorrow as we need 3 points.

When has your support been good enough to sustain a football league club?

Is the owner looking to sell the club or asset strip?

Nobody knows. Everything the owner does makes no sense.

We used to average 2500 ish in the early to mid 2000s, which is incidentally where you have to go back to in order to find the last time we weren’t run awfully.

This isn’t a year or two of off the field mis-management, it’s over a decade.

Considering we are a small club, I am honestly surprised that we still seem to have a hardcore of 1500 home fans who still bother going.

Macclesfield turned up with a yellow goalkeeper top yesterday. We of course, play in yellow so they had to borrow an old goalkeeper kit of ours. Very Sunday league.

It isn`t enough is it, I`m not knocking the club or its supporters but you can`t sustain a lower league club on those numbers.

It’s difficult but Morecambe do it often on barely 1000 home fans.

10-15 years ago then it would have been OK. These days definitely not.

The wages of decent league two players are high enough for anyone to struggle. That's why we have signed loads of players from the leagues below.

On 2500, I think you probably can just about.
On 1500 - absolutely not.

Crowds mean nowt really. Look at wrexham.
I suppose that is why you all blame the owner if you believe that. At the end of their football league time, their gates were almost down to your heyday levels.

Getting big crowds isn't the be all and end all when you have teams with multi-millionaire owners blowing everyone out of the water. But you do need one or the other. We have neither of those and it's clear to see that we can't afford to maintain a 24 man L2 squad, at least not without missing wage payments and maintaining the ground properly. Trouble is, even if we were relegated I don't see anything changing under the current regime.

The owner is morally misguided at times (read some of his club statements and you'll get the idea), deliberately elusive when questioned by fans, and invests as little time and effort into running the club as possible. A change of ownership is certainly what's needed, similar to what Vale themselves went through over the summer. I'm not calling for a wealthy backer to come in and bankroll us, just someone with the club's interests at heart who will pay more attention to the operational side of the club, including staying within budget, no matter how small that budget is.

I still don't know what you're owner is involved for because he isn't a Macclesfield fan(?), rarely attends games, doesn't put massive amount of money in (I'm assuming he covers the odd thing here and there), doesn't appear overly doesn't appear an egoistical bloke and doesn't seem to be a dodgy asset stripper either.

In the early days when it was him and his brother running the club it was very much played on one of their wives being from Macc so had affiliations with the area. Over the years the interest soon dwindled, their own telecoms business not making as much money and then suddenly deciding "they know best" and appointing Steve King after our relegation. Just slowly but surely lost all interest and it feels as though now has kept hold of the club far too long and needs to find ways of making sure he gets as much of his input back.

He has covered short term gaps now and then, but whereas in years gone by these would then be converted to shares, in the last year or two he hasnt and then reimburses himself as soon as possible, and now getting worse that he's taken loans out to pay the shortfall and has to pay them back. Has become a classic "rob Peter to pay Paul" scenario.

I don't personally think he's got malicious intent, just let things roll on far too long and is paying for not running the club properly for the last 5/6 years.

Funnily enough, we actually turned a profit a few years ago following our run to the FA Trophy final.

You can still be somewhat competitive in this division on the lowest gates. As much as Morecambe haven't quite progressed in the years they have been in the league, they always assemble a good enough squad to stay in the league, with the odd player going on to play at a higher level. Crawley must gate gates on average of 2,000 and always seem to do okay too.

If you believe what was going on at Accrington, they were on a small budget with a low fanbase but with the right management and scouting in the non-league they had a couple of good seasons and got into league 1.

The problem isn't the fanbase, it's how the club is being run.

I'll be the first to admit I didn't think Sol Campbell would have done as well as he did, so his appointment turned out to be decent and to also credit him, his recruitment looked pretty decent this season too (I know he filled the squad with a lot of rubbish in January, who never even played for Macc) so if Macc had a decent owner, you could continue to survive in this league. I'd much rather see Macclesfield town here than the likes of Eastleigh or Solihull Moors.
