Going forward you were absolutely fantastic but at the back I thought you were very weak and I thought that'd be your downfall in the playoffs. Yet you defended pretty well in the playoffs and the attack misfired (although the 10 men had an effect on that in the first game). It's a funny old game.

These two are very very similar sides (as characterised by the fact that we lost 1-0 at both grounds but beat both of them 3-2 at home).

Two defensively minded teams (despite the good strike rates of their forwards) were always going to serve up a snoozefest today. But it's the approach that's served them well in the latter part of the season. Believe both games between these sides were a 1-0 win for Newport and 0-0 this season too!

Agreed. Newport are functional and play as a unit. But they don't strike me as any better than 8th. I thought we had more than both these sides, so it's a shame we missed out. Perhaps it was not having a decent target man (might have won us another 3-6 pts over the season), and of course the inability to perform in big games that cost us.

Playing devil's advocate though, Mansfield dropped some silly, silly points in the run in. Losing to us, Vale and Stevenage for instance.
