Perhaps it wasn’t having a decent manager

I liked the 5-3-2 formation and thought the football was good for a decent enough portion of the season. He also knew mostly what his best team was, so I'll remember this as one of the better Mansfield sides and Flitcroft as one of the better managers we've had in my time supporting.

However, in game formation tweaks were often were very bizarre. You could see the players had no idea what he was trying to do. And we were crap when it mattered.

I don't mind Flitcroft, plays football the right way. Was a goal away from automatic promotion and a shoot out away from Wembley. Fine margins tbf.
That’s my point. He gets a team playing well then, for some reason, changes things and starts hoofing it.

Exactly what we did against MK for the first 45. He didn’t even sign a target man in Jan to play that football!

Not having that. From the position you were in it should have been a simple task.

Definitely ballsed it up when it mattered, but we still finished 4th and spent most of the season in the top three whilst playing better football than pretty much anybody overall. Right call to sack him? Probably - ultimately he failed but only just.

I’m looking at it from both sides, whereas you have a hard on for knocking him so only see one side!

Playing devil's advocate though, Mansfield dropped some silly, silly points in the run in. Losing to us, Vale and Stevenage for instance.

Stevenage is a poor example due to the scenario of winning promotion that day, we either won and got promoted or it didn’t matter for the MK game.

Vale, Crewe, Oldham, County, Yeovil - that’s where we were really let down.

Harsh on Newport that. Poor decisions from the referee with the penalty but fair play to Tranmere for taking advantage of that.

Gotta feel sorry for Newport there being robbed of a blatant pen and then conceding so late, I actually thought Newport looked the more likely to score even with 10 men.
Congrats to Tranmere though.

Well done Tranmere

I think either team will struggle big time next season in L1, but from a selfish point of view I’m happier Tranmere are up as they would be a likely bigger threat in L2.

I'd rather Tranmere have stuck around next season but oh well, congratulations and good luck to them. But their fans have no right to complain about refereeing decisions ever again.

Very happy for Connor Jennings though.
