Listening to bignot interview after the game the only way chester will get out of the vln is to be relegated... he was very damning about the set up there ... didnt realise neil young returned for free and walked out due to the problems there. Actually feel quite sorry for them now

It's along story but it goes something like this. We had a good run 2 seasons ago when Ian Sharps was probably the reason. At around that time the chairman, Simon Ollerenshaw (big noise at Merseyrail) decided we needed a professional Ceo, so Mark Maguire was hired at £55k pa (reliably informed). This is the man that is largely responsible for Stockport County's demise allegedly and also Hull City had him to their detriment. SO and Lawrence Kirby (financial director) thought it would be a good idea to cover our backs and give Jon McCarthy a 2-year contact extension.

Ian Sharps left to become 1st team coach at Walsall (Chester were 7th in league at this point). From that point we won 2 more (away) games and reached 52 points which was just enough to keep us up. JM declared job done! We hadn't won a home game since December. Instead of sacking JM and a clause would have meant the pay-off significantly less JM was given our biggest budget bolstered by the money we got from Leicester City for Sam Hughes. In a nutcase he blew the lot on shite including 3 gash players from Macclesfield, Hannah and Turnbull from Barrow and Harry White from Solihull. HW would be stretched in the North West Counties League and finally L Rowe-Turner from Torquay (say no more). We started the season with 4 strikers, a perma-injured winger and 4 defenders. By the time McCarthy was sacked we were doomed.

We had £100k contingency fund, but by the time the board made it public that we needed £50k to see out season that fund had gone. Despite Bignot virtually changing the first 11 we were doomed.

I've followed Chester since 1960 and this is easily the worst team in that time.
The problem persists as the financial director has not resigned. A lot of our fans think he is wonderful. Most of this has come from ex-directors, who I believe know the score. O nearly forgot MM's position was made redundant, but we are still paying him a grand a week.

Hope Chester can sort their boardroom out for next season then, otherwise it will be another relegation.
Despite the rivalry, I’ve got a soft spot for Chester and hope your club comes straight back up stronger and better.

There's some genuinely nice Tranmere fans on this forum and that's appreciated. We've lost fans in the past through spending 2 years (unnecessarily) at Macclesfield, but this has really wiped out a lot of the fair-weather fans (less than a thousand Chester fans yesterday). I only know what I know because it's come to me through people in the know who've been on the board and know how damaging this recent board have been. We're supposed to be fan-owned, but the fans don't get to know jack shit. I'm seriously thinking about taking a sabbatical unless we clear out the poison from the board and some glasnost (I think that means openness).

Gotta have a secret soft spot for chester as they are my mates shorty and sherwins second team .

What will it take railway ? You need a couple of seasons of midtable stability then set up a play off push... what measures would make this happen in your opinion?

We need to remove from the board the perpetrators of this calamity. The trouble is the next election is not until October. The consensus is that we might be looking at a second straight relegation. Nobody really knows how to pull us round. A decent manager would be a start. Fan-owned was supposed to be a bulwark against this type of thing happening. It only works if all the components are working in synergy.

Just watching the National League highlights - surely the FA have to rescind Blisset's red card. Dreadful decision from the 4th official

Hopefully we'll find out at the CFU meeting next week. They've always been held on a Thursday which is a difficult day for me. Next meeting is on a Wednesday (18th) and I'll be there. The only thing is that Simon Ollerenshaw, who resigned as chairman last week after 2 weeks in post is Neil's boss at Merseyrail. I suspect that Neil doesn't want to be associated with the club while the likes of Lawrence Kirby are still on the board.

Please have a look at the free kick awarded for the second goal and tell me who you think it should have gone to.

He does indeed. he looked like one of those kids that the players in Internationals led out by the hand prior to the kick off. Even Jay Harris would tower above him..

Nathan Brown came off the bench last night for last 10 minutes at 2-2 and scored what will easily be our goal of the season. It was so good that the handful of Bromley fans that were in attendance applauded it. One fan has described it as better than Owen's goal against Argentina.

Andy Cook had the same from the travelling Gateshead fans, swathes of their support stood to applaud him. The 3 fans a good amount of the travelling 20.

The difference is that Nathan Brown is not a bellend.
