Pressley’s days are numbered. He may well get Tuesdays game, but I hope he’s sacked before then. He’s utterly shit.

Been mulling this over. With our board I doubt they'll sack him, things usually have to be extremely dire for them to act, though if we continue to lose games things might change. We've had a decent record against teams in the bottom third so far this season so might not get dragged into a serious battle.

Thing is performances have got worse over the last 4-6 weeks. The last 2 performances wouldn’t have beaten a bottom third national league team never mind league 2.

I hope you’re wrong and they sack him now while there’s still time to rescue the season.

Is Holdsworth positioning himself for another managerial position or is he part of the Pressley team?

Holdsworth is the sporting director. He hired Pressley and will ultimately fire him and appoint his replacement.

Holdsworth is shit at his job as well.

We can stay up, but not if we keep this idiot as our manager.

Time is up, he has to be sacked now. But as shoddy says we probably won’t act until we’re rock bottom.

Question is who to replace him with. The overwhelming favourite among our fans seems to be Danny Grainger. Not a good idea, it's a sentimental choice but just because he's made a good start to life in the dugout at Workington does not mean he'll come in and do well here.

There's a few decent managers out there at the moment. Personally I'd go with Jack Ross, but Sol Campbell would be a reasonable shout too.

Sacking Pressley is in many ways an acceptance of a relegation battle, which is why I'm probably the last Carlisle fan to come over to that side. While there was a chance that the squad could still gel and move up the table; Pressley was still the most likely to achieve that with it being a squad almost entirely of his making, also he's only in the last few games started looking like he doesn't know his best side. We have no budget so a new manager won't be able to change the playing staff much and even after a poor start we weren't far behind where Sheridan was this time last season. At this point we're just going backwards so it is a relegation battle, it's no longer about patience and moving up the table, it's about arresting a decline and Pressley doesn't look like doing that.

Fucking hope Holsworth doesn't take over, that would be worse than just sticking with Pressley. Fingers crossed I think Holsworth is comfortable in the boardroom and has no desire to don a tracksuit and jump back into the technical area. There were rumours he would take over as caretaker when Sheridan walked but he chose not to (though did pop up in the dugout as support for the caretakers)

Sol Campbell is in a job.

I’m getting to the stage now where I think just about anyone would be better than Pressley. He’s even more clueless than I gave him credit for in the summer.

If they don’t sack him this week then they obviously don’t give a Shit about our league status.

I think we could still quite easily go out and replace him with a worse manager, which is another reason I've been hesitant over sacking him being a good idea. There's plenty of Graham Kavanaghs out there.

We are worryingly getting worse under Pressley. Our form at the start of the season was poor but we were a new team and were actually playing decent stuff in patches. As the team gels we should be improving, not getting worse by the week.

You say we could get worse than Pressley, but if we don’t and change things he will continue to make these players worse and we will go down. He’s terrible, look what he did to us last season from the position we’re in.

I think we have to roll the dice and try a new manager. We have to at least try and stay up. I agree I wouldn’t give it to Grainger ideally, maybe let him assist someone with a view to taking over in the future.

I‘d rather you kept pressley for a while please. The cashout on my bet that you will be in the bottom 2 is getting more interesting :animatedf:

Very sad to see him go but he's hardly been successful at Morecambe, unless you define success as keeping a club with little resources in the league?

What Fylde want and what Morecambe want are two different things. I can't see Jim Bentley playing champagne football that the vanity project owner Haythornthwaite wants. Really odd appointment. I don't know who'll honestly take the Morecambe job though, probably some washed up has-been who last managed in the league ten years ago I reckon...

I'd imagine Morecambe will go with an in-house appointment to save the pennies. Someone like Stewart Drummond probably. Or maybe even Kevin Ellison?

To be fair to keep them up on the crowds they get in relegation battles year on year with much bigger budget clubs like Vale, Notts, Chesterfield even FGR for instance he’s done a job, in the day now of money talking it’s a tough ask for them to expect anything other than struggle.

Think they will go down this year now probably.

Footballing wise it’s odd as Fylde are having a bad season the league below.

I'm not necessarily knocking him for keeping them up but does he really fit the bill as to what Fylde want? Challinor had them playing lovely attacking football and a loss of form after key personnel left in the Summer has made him pay the price as replacements weren't good enough. Bentley is a clogger who specialises in defensive "backs to the wall" football. That won't get them promoted. It might keep them up but I don't think he's the type of manager that could lead a team to promotion.

I said this season Morecambe would finally go this year and it looks justified with Bentley jumping ship. Cannot for the life of me say who'll take that job unless it's an ex Morecambe player desperate for the opportunity to keep them up.

Probably be Ellison.. seems well thought of there.

As I say it’s an odd appointment really. The Morecambe squad isn’t that bad this year probably better options than previous but bottom already and losing Bentley maybe all isn’t well behind the scenes.

Problem with a club like Morecambe is the budget keeps getting cut year on year. They never really sell players. They never develop players. They're treading water. Every single ambitious club that comes up from non league pushes them closer to the drop and they're relying on a League One basket case or a sudden financial crisis at a solid League Two club to keep them up each year. The club is a mish mash of players on the wind down for years, players rejected from other L2 clubs and a bunch of loans. The takeovers have fallen through and thus failed to maybe take them to the next level and they've been on the wane ever since they moved into the Globe Arena.

The thing is with the L2 basket cases this season, you get the feeling they've bottomed out and will improve even if that takes a while to kick in. Not so with Morecambe if their biggest rock of stability has decided to up sticks and leave...

If it's an in house appointment we will go down, simple as. We need someone from the outside to come in and kick everything into gear, including the owners. A gamble I know which could go either way. The current temporary owners tried to get Paul Ince involved about a year ago, which would be worrying.

Jim's had to just pluck sides together year on year, Fylde will be a good platform for him to actually develop a side to his preferred style. At home we did/do try to play a bit of football but we just aren't good enough. We're a conference north club in league 2, Jim is a hero for keeping us here for this long.

I completely get it from Bentley's point of view. He's been fed up at Morecambe for a while (and who can blame him?) but he was never going to leave unless another job came up as a) they couldn't afford to sack him and b) he wouldn't resign without getting a payoff.

Fylde have struggled this season but it can't get much worse for them, so you'd imagine he'll make the necessary improvements and get them in and around the play-offs come the end of the season. Plus the budget he'll have will be far bigger than anything he's ever had at Morecambe.

I do share the sentiments above about it being a questionable decision on Fylde's behalf, but this is their back-up choice after all as they'd gone all out for Ian Evatt at Barrow, who ended up signing a new deal there last week having initially expressed an interest.

i wanted them to try a scottish manager for a long time but in typical Carlisle fashion rather than try for a scottish manager with an excellent track record and good at the job as manager we appoint one with a below avrage to poor previous record and just 'hope' it works out better here..............mostly because we never shown enough ambition to attract a manager moving forward.

I think in its current state Carlisle probably needs a fresh manager, but one who came from that excellent spell between 2005-2009 who the fans could get beind and back.....may work or may fail but i think its an option that would get fans back on board which is badly needed.

Peter Murphy is an obvious option as he manages up the road, but i am thinking now they should try Zigor Aranalde who i think recently just got ousted when the backroom team at Watford changed.

Very popular player here......been spending his time since as a scout/coach and seems to be well respected by fact he's spent this time at top flight clubs (not down this level) plus having spent playing time down here knows the level and also the club.

I'd loved to have seen a Tom Cowan or Kev Gray as manager just for their sheer passion maybe injecting a Lincoln style boost to the club, but both long since left the game entirely.

Well it was fun while it lasted, Jim has officially resigned this morning, we'll be in the conference north in 3 years time if we don't get this appointment right. It will be interesting to see who goes for the job but if we appoint from within, nothing will change and we'll go down with a whimper.

Will be very interesting to see both Bentley and Morecambe now. It's possible for Morecambe to find a miracle worker who can keep them up season after season, but it'll be damn hard to find someone who understands them like Bentley does. It's his squad, playing his way with his tactics. Getting such an effective tune out of them will be very difficult when they don't have a pot to piss in.

As for Bentley, he'll have to really change his approach. Now he has a budget and an expectant chairman who won't stand sterile tactics and 0-0s. He'll have to go out and attack, to preach progressive attractive football. Can he change after so long doing things a certain way at Morecambe?

Jim Bentley is a decent manager, was linked with the Rovers vacancy when Brabin left. It will be interesting to see how he fares with some money behind him, though I don't think Fylde is capable of a quick fix. . The situation with Morecambe looks fairly grim now, unless they can get a decent replacement in.

Rumours that Carl Fletcher is going to go to our board and ask to bring in his own backroom staff, as he doesn't get on with one or two that we already have.

Part of the package was for anyone taking our job, that because of last summers circumstances was that you had to work with the backroom staff already in place.........

This isn't going to end well - If Ross Embleton or Danny Webb are relieved of their duties then the fans will turn on Fletcher and our board very, very quickly.

Then again - This is why managers like to bring in their own coaching staff.

Watch this space.................
