Mark Warburton to be announced as the new QPR boss according to Sky.
Decent appointment that but I've no idea what the R's financial situation is nowadays. Is the massive fine still hanging over them / embargoes etc?

Did well on a small budget at Brentford, might be a good appointment for QPR.

Embargo has now finished so we are okay to sign players again but we don't have much money to do so, if any. We'll be after freebies and Warburton will have to use the youth and loan systems wisely as well.

I can see Smith and Freeman being sold. Bidwell, Pawel Wszolek, Lynch, Baptise and a few others will be released once their contracts run out in a month or so.

The shareholders had to dilute £20m of debt and we had to pay the EFL £17m, but that is split over 10 years and interest free.

Apparently Derby will make an approach for Jose Gomes if Frank Lampard leaves for Chelsea (with or without promotion).

Any good?

Kept us up (just). Likes to play possession football, we were a lot better at grinding out results under him and he seems to have a great rapport with the players. His six months in charge would have had us in the Top 12 IF he had been available all season.

Anyone else think that Graeme Jones appointment at Luton has shades of Warren Joyce at Wigan?

We're hoping that it will turn out more like Nathan Jones to Luton!

Of course it's a big gamble but given our resources we are going to have to gamble either on an unproven top coach or a lower league manager (or appoint a proven failure at the level who is out of a job of course). We just have to hope it pays off like it did with his namesake.

I like this option. The board have made great appointments since the early failures culminating in Paul Buckle. Since then its been excellent in each situation.

Yeah, you've got to trust your board really if the recent track record is good.

On paper though, newly promoted, inexperienced team at this level, combined with an external appointment in his first managerial job. Just seems a bit risky. I'm just seeing parallels with Joyce as i'd never heard of Jones before.

In the game he's hardly considered as a novice having assisted Martinez at little old Belgium....
Didn't go great for terry Henry admitted but more of a manager brain...

Whether Jones succeeds or not will depend on how fast and how effectively he coaches his players on how to play to “tika taka” style of football I assume he’ll want them to play considering he’s a student of Martinez. I have to say I worry about whether he has the players to do it in such a tough league and it could well be a scenario where just like with Martinez at Wigan, Luton will be on the end of some serious batterings. However if that’s the case, they may also pull off some shock results and play some great football in the process.

On the bright side, if it doesn’t work out then at least you’ll get to see your team trying to play football in the process, rather than the neck craning toothless diatribe Joyce served up with us.

Our squad is built from the ground up with similar principles in mind, Nathan Jones is a big proponent of patient possession football drawing influence from the Spanish game and constructed our squad accordingly. We passed a lot of teams to death in L2 and L1 but it is a huge step up now of course.

One thing Nathan Jones didn't like was a plan B - he built the squad to play a narrow 4-4-2 diamond and very, very, very rarely deviated from that. Graeme Jones has talked about being more adaptable or pragmatic in the Championship against better opposition. Reading between the lines of his first press conference I think he was alluding to the narrow diamond working well at Kenilworth Road where the pitch is as tight as they come, but maybe not so well away from home on wider pitches where the midfield can get pulled around and leave the full backs isolated.

Had a quick look on a football grounds site, and these are given as pitch widths in metres. Hopefully they are fairly accurate.
Hardly a massive difference between the majority of them. I think that some people get confused by the fact that the distance from the seats to the pitch is very small at the Kenny, whereas at a lot of grounds the distance is much bigger.

Jones experience with the likes of de Bruyne and hazard and those other talents he had to work with should work wonders on PRM...this could be the season where his potential will be realised in a midfield role that takes him to the next level and prove the faith and admiration shown to him by the majority of Lutoners was well judged...I wish him well as there is a talent that has been waiting to be unleashed in the correct role

Agreed....though he was infuriating at times,so he will have his rough edges smoothed out by jones and improve his all round play

7m between the widest and the narrowest. Doesn't this prove that all this about narrow pitches is a lot of cobblers?

Did think that. When you see it written down, does make you wonder how much difference it actually makes, 7 meters doesnt feel like a huge difference and most are within 3/4.

Think the stands being so close to the pitch probably has more of an effect. Perhaps it makes the pitch feel narrower than it really is....or perhaps more likely when they see my ugly mug on the touchline they want to stay well inside!

Stendel has gone from 20/1 to 5/2 to be appointed next Boro manager. Fuck this game.

Adkins to Hull looked like a partnership that made sense at the time but wouldn't last too long.

I've always had respect for Adkins as a manager but his stock seem to regress somewhat and he had a few steady jobs without exceeding expectations. He did that at Hull and he's obviously frustrated at the situation as the majority are. I don't know where he will go next, but I'd imagine a good Championship side will take a punt on him throughout the season.

Got the lengths as well? I am sure QPR are literally on the cusp of what is possible.

I would say that 7 metres is a pretty massive difference especially if the pitch is longer as well. It would expose the less mobile teams quite a lot (in theory).
