I’m not embarrassed at the moment but that’s only because I’ve had quite a few beers, we are fucking wank.

The Port Vale promotion bandwagon has been washed off and is ready to roll.

We are going up.

It’s hard not to get a little excited certainly with the form and seemingly now winning away as well as being unbeaten at home.

The worry I had was squad depth in the summer yet we’ve got this far with our best player (Manny Oyeleke) out for all but the first game and Conlon out for months both due back soon.

The likes of Burgess have come in a picked up the mantle and Jake Taylor is probably the signing of the summer on loan from Forest, he’s outstanding.

Then up front like today your looking for a goal and have the likes of Pope and Cullen you can chuck on.

We’ve a good side with more depth than we could of imagined in the summer but I’m happy for people to under estimate us and us keep going under the radar. However we won’t stay under the radar long if we carry on like this.

I think the one player this team cannot really afford to be missing time is Worrall. He is so integral to everything we do with his work rate alone. If he keeps this up he must be nailed on to make the L2 team of the year. Made all the more impressive by the fact he’s been dealing with a hip injury all season.

Nice selection headache across the squad to have for Askey at the moment with Conlon to return and hopefully Oyeleke at some point also.

I’m going to our game against you guys next week, are you really that bad?

I suppose we are just incredibly distinctively average, which is a big change from recent seasons and it makes it very mundane.

Look at our home form, anything other than a Swindon victory will a surprise.

I’m just praying he’s gunna get sacked.

Wozza is above this level and under Askey we are seeing the player we expected when we signed him.

It’s a breath of fresh air this season, record Vale season for number of home defeats last season to being unbeaten into December and joint most home points in the division... lost as many games after 18 matches as we did after only six last season, goals from everywhere which we lacked any goals from midfield last season with Taylor, Woz, Amoo, Burgess and even Joyce getting goals.

I expected steady progress but the progress so far has been miraculous from where we were and it’s hard not to be excited, if only we hadn’t thrown away a couple of wins at Salford and Orient in the dying seconds.

After three years of utter turgid shit and two of our worst seasons on record alongside the dire ownership of Mr Smurthwaite It’s nice to enjoy and not dread the weekends again.

Hopefully we can keep in this sort of position into January and I dare say then we will go out to get players in to have a real go. May as well even if we ultimately fall short.

Word at this end is that Doyle is definitely back in City colours in Jan.

As mentioned, we have some key players coming back from injury in Jan - let’s hope we can really push on next year.

Who, and how many, will you have to get rid of - if you can - to stop you breaking the 55% salary cap?

Let’s be honest, nobody at either end of the Doyle saga knows what’s going to happen yet. It’s all bluster.

Orient, do you still fancy paying for Calderwood?
Probably. We need someone with recent experience in this league to stop us leaking goals.

Our owners have indicated that for the time being, we won't be looking to hire someone, but anything could happen after they made a huge error with Fletcher.

Alot of our fans are having a nice meltdown over this.

Apparently Fletcher wanted to get rid of around 7 players in January and replace them with ones that he wanted to fit his style of play, as well as introducing a new fitness programme so the team could play his 4-3-3 high pressing game - Nothing wrong with this but......................These aren't Premier League players, they're Non League/League Two players who've also just lost their last manager in tragic circumstances.

A more experienced/better manager would've come in and worked with what he had, tried to make the team harder to beat and implementing his style and look on the team slowly over time, not trying to change everything so quickly - such as the players and backroom staff, which led to a big revolt behind the scenes. He also very rarely communicated with any of the players and staff and came across in this regard as a loner.

Somethings got to give with us, we either take on Tisdale and let him bring in at least one of his own coaches or just keep our fingers crossed that the players might get their confidence back after last months huge mistake.

Wouldn't surprise me if we go in for Danny Hylton if Doyle goes back. Linked in the summer and believe he's yet to play a game this season for Luton although I'm unsure if injuries have played a part in that.

Strange that Bradford loaned him to another league two side in the first place, could cost them promotion potentially if say Swindon go up auto and they just miss out and lose in play offs for example.

I’d expect purely for the threat Swindon pose Bradford will have him back on Jan 1st even if he sits on their bench.

Bradford should of given him a go in their team at this level before writing him off mind.

We did, but not as long as some would have liked.

We brought in Callum Cooke from Peterborough, Dylan Connolly from Wimbledon, Oramide Oteh from QPR, Jamie Devitt and Harry Pritchard from Blackpool - on the back of shipping out Doyle and Scannell. We’re far stronger whatever happens.

It seems the return of Doyle in Jan may depend on how much money we can generate come financial year end. If we progress against Shrewsbury and then beat Mansfield at home in the 2nd round of the FA Cup, we’ll have no problem with in bringing Doyle back and adhering to FFP ruling.

You’ve got to bear in mind he was the scapegoat, or one of many, for Bradford’s relegation. Little return on a big fee plus salary, perceived little effort and the majority of fans wanted him gone. I presume no other club higher up the food chain wanted him so they had little choice but to loan him to whoever was willing to take him.

If he does return, so be it - we’ve got the league’s 2nd highest scorer as well! Tbh, I’d be spitting feathers if I were a Bantam - but that’s with hindsight.

Can we have our ball back, please?

It will be a good marker for where we are against Bradford on Saturday.

Since the abhorrent performance at Exeter we've been to Bolton, who now seem to be doing quite well, and won 1-0, and done the same at Forest Green who were top. Things starting to look up with 4 wins in the last 5.

Lowe's clearly focused on tightening up and game management - it was needed.

That Mckirdy geezer with his tiny shorts and rolled down socks.
Seems a talent but also an annoying little cheat who falls over if blown on ?
I believe even your forum are slating him for his antics on Saturday .
Definitely a player in there but he's in League 2 not on Sky so needs to cut that bollocks out of his game

Ah, home sweet home for the ginger Pele where he was so appreciated.

You’ll need to sign Wellens as well to get him scoring a goal a game.

Seemed an idiot, believe he’s from the lardies originally.

Wearing gloves with a kids pair of shorts and rolled down socks was strange. He’s a plank I think who almost caused a riot when he threw Whitfield over the hoardings at Crewe in the 2-2.

Kept moaning all the time whenever tackled! Biggest cheer when Legge smashed him fairly first half.

See Monty tried dragging him up and he threw himself back down again.

Carlisle can’t defend for toffee and every cross looked like a goal might come but had some decent spells going forward; if they didn’t resort to the antics they did they might have stood a better chance but they were not even particularly astute at diving and time wasting so most of the time luckily the referee didn’t buy it.

As I said a great example when we played on with Wozza down and we get the winner... and of course this beautiful moment!

Wish my wife looked at me like this!

Couldn't agree more. Hopefully we have turned the corner and prioritized defending correctly over trying to overplay from the back and causing ourselves all sorts of issues.

What a photo that is! What a bond this squad have formed with each other and with the fans.

I hope Worrall is back for Saturday as he’s integral to the way we play.

Crewe fans enjoying being 1st: arrogant, can’t actually be that good, the wheels will fall off.

Vale fans in 8th: wanking themselves into a coma over their excellence.

Eh?

8th, one defeat in 12 games, unbeaten at home so far this season and playing decent, high pressure attacking football.

After the years of garbage we have had to endure both on and off the pitch it’s actually pretty nice to finally have some positivity around the club from the very top right through to the manager, the players and the fans.

I’ve never even mentioned anything about Crewe. However, the wheels do look a bit loose at present. I still think we will finish above you and that’ll mean we are in at least the play offs maybe more.

Vale are doing well in negotiating a difficult looking group of fixtures but like most teams in this division, one or two injuries or suspensions can tip the balance.
Crewe seem to be similar as always where they struggle to deal with physical sides (see Northampton) but will usually beat fellow tiki taka types like Stanley, so guess what style of play most teams will adopt against them.
The margins are so tight in this league that I don`t think anyone can take results for granted so best not get too carried away or down about a few games.

Don’t think any Vale fan is getting arrogant, look at Crewe - Artell stating it’ll take something special for Cobblers to beat you etc when you’ve had a good start nothing more at this stage and are now in a sticky patch you need to negotiate... that said not one Vale fan on here anyway has said the “wheels have fallen off” or mentioned Crewe’s poor form.

As most Vale fans, myself included have said on this very thread we need to keep under the radar and our feet grounded but yeah 1 loss in 12, 5 wins and a draw in our last 6 and only 4 losses (5 in all comps (23 games) is something we can certainly enjoy after some of the worst seasons in our history (the last two statistically!)

It may or may not last although half a season shows some promise that it can if we keep it up but certainly going to enjoy these moments as they are at this level few and far between.
