Should be a close game this. Both teams seem to have improved from last year and have had reasonable starts.

Grimsby play direct by all accounts, so we'll have to be wary of that, but we have forwards who can cause problems. Montano will be out which is a shame but Bennett and Amoo will create chances.

Just need to keep tight at the back. I expect it might be a draw.

Two sides looking like they might improve on a couple of poor seasons at this level and be another good test for us.

Hopefully we can carry on the performance levels of late and create chances but need to start taking them and turning draws into wins really.

Hanson will be a handful, be a decent battle with him, Leggey and Smith... Smith of course made his debut at Bradford as a kid and pocketed him that day and has gone on to miss about 1 game since in the three years that have elapsed (sure he had to come on then too!) but could do with the same again!

Tuesday was some of the best we’ve played in three years in that first half we were playing with great pace and passing. We usually then get sent down with a bump when we get excited but hopeful of a point here.

Forth 1-1 in 5 games... Bennett putting us ahead, missing about six good chances before getting pegged back late on probably if the first games are a base!

Can’t understand why it isn’t a 1pm kick off.

Fuck me, got our own thread.
Better get the post count up.
Or whatever.
2-1 vale, we’re on it.
Was it last year there was a bit of bother? Or year before?
Why the fuck we have mither with Grimsby? It makes no no sense.
Stop off at brigg travelling valiants, lots of cracking boozers there.

Easy three points for us today, 3-1 being my estimate of the final score. I also predict no trouble this time around.

I think we can win this one. Our recent performances are on another level compared to last season, and we are capable of containing a team who play direct.

1-2 Worrall and Bennett

Could do with at least four points from the next two more winnable games as September is literally as horrific as it gets fixture wise! Newport A Mansfield H Exeter A Plymouth H

It isn't a rivalry. Grimsby brought loads of goons to Vale when Burslem was flooded with police.
Vale then took 2 coaches of our own goons to the reverse fixture.
Most of it was gesturing and posturing as is the norm.
The catalyst was the injury time goal in what was a massive relegation battle.
I doubt there will ever be trouble between the two again.
We had 29 banned as a result.
Today's Vale support will be the regular die hards and a few extra because of our reasonable start.

I'll go 1-1 with zero arrests

Bank Holiday weekend on the Lincolnshire Riviera, I was rather hoping you'd bring 1,000's rather than just over a 100.

Jordan Cook starts over Harry Clifton with Hewitt dropping back to RB and Hendrie taking Ring's spot on the other side. Nice positive attacking selection there. Hopefully Whitehouse and Hess are up for putting a shift in so that Cook can stay in a more advanced role.

One change for us - Ryan Lloyd comes in for Cristian Montano.

Hoping we carry on playing like we have been but we’re usually shite up at Grimsby. Hoping Legge wins all the aerial duels and Smith has Hanson in his back pocket again. We need to start taking chances though.

Losing Monty is a blow as he and Amoo on either side is a nightmare but assume Wozza will go wide and Lloyd central?

Is Montano not the lad you all gave absolute hell to last season?

Our midfield is redundant when we get the ball, it flies over their heads. But I do hope that they get stuck in when Vale have the ball, and yes, let's also hope Cook is allowed to go forward and feed off the high balls to Hanson.

Yeah, the only time the CMs get on the ball is when they win it in the middle. The problem from what I've seen is that then there isn't really any kind of wide outlet so they just try and bring it forward themselves. I'd love there to be a way to shoehorn Max Wright and Ogbu in, but that would require dropping either Hanson or Green which isn't going to happen. I'd like to see us play with just one of them though. Or play 4-4-2.

I'd like to see Green dropped for Wright/Rose if we sticking to 3 up front with Ogbu on the other side. Green doesn't work up there and having two quick players either side of Hanson will allow them to get on his drop downs better and also provide a wide option with pace a long the floor to get more crosses in for Hanson.

If they got the ball at FGR they usually played it backwards for the lads to hoof it high to Hanson, it was awful to watch.

We gave a lot of them hell! Monty was far from bad but always injured.

A lot of the players who were bad under Aspin are different players under Askey, fitter, happier and not being fed left over pies at training by Smurf but actual proper food and nutrition! And that last bit isn’t a joke they actually were fed left over pies!

Nothing wrong with 'left over pies', it's the stale beer I drink with them that's the problem!

Judging by some of the efforts and fitness levels last season I’d say they weren’t the best pies!

What a piss poor goal to concede. Daft free kick to concede initially.
