Another definite pen Fish IMO. Perhaps my definition of 'a soft pen' is different to yours :pond:
Not sure whether your whooshing again mate but you do know that for our pen v Swindon Cardwell tripped over his own leg, no contact from the Swindon defender, and it was outside the box don’t you?

I thought it was a pen tbh, naive defending from an experienced centre half going through the back of Akinde (pen). Anything been said about Wharton or Vickers - hopefully not a recurrence of his previous injury? Have to say Pett looked bright when he came on.

Rhead would have looked bright if he came on to that performance!

Fair play to Grimsby today they were well at it all match. Welsh was everywhere and won the midfield, having Bostwick CM rather than CB would have evened that battle up.

Didn't think it was a pen to be fair, Akinde had a look round backed in and played for it. Lucky to get a point but we'll get better.

Rhead was stripped ready just before Akinde was cynically fouled for the pen.

Lincoln's budget is probably about 10 times bigger then Gimsby's, so they should be favourites. The pressure is all on them. Anything less then a convincing win and serious questions wil need to start being asked of the Cowleys.

Think Grimsby are the more skilful side though but they will at least try and play some football and if they can dominate possession, Lincoln's mega money brick shithouse xi might struggle.

I wonder if DC line up on the pitch and shake hands with the Grimsby players before the game?
I'm not sure if you were trolling the Lincoln fans here or not, but you have called it well. We looked like a much more skilful and intelligent side than Lincoln. Ball on the deck and great movement that Lincoln struggled to deal with at times. The two Harries were both quality today, for me. Lincoln seldom got the better of Harry D and Harry C was neat, tidy and effective in most of what he did.

All the talk last weekend was of Lincoln bringing another element into their game vs Swindon. Saw nothing of it really. A few slight flashes from the attackers from Boreham Wood and Bradford whose names I can't be arsed to check the spellings of aside, they offered very little. Assuming it was a day off. Cowleys in the ear of the 4th official at every given opportunity too. Danny will be sent to the stands before the end of the season. Soft as fuck pen too. Would like to see it again, but I don't think Akinde even knew where the ball was. He certainly knew where Collins was though and worked that to his advantage.

Chesterfield and Swindon mate.

Chesterfield was definitely a pen? Handball in the box, admittedly under little to no pressure but just unfortunate timing for them. If that was given 35mins in, it wouldn't have been debated.

No I'm not whooshing Fish, I'm being serious this time. Your player was tripped and didn't trip over his own leg. But I'll give you that it was a 50/50 call on whether it was inside or outside the box, though I think it was just inside.

Anyway, that was last year so let's move on. Good job on holding Lincoln to a draw today even though it seems like you could've got all 3 points at stake with a bit of luck

Would our fishy friends up been upset if they'd got the pen, doubt it.
Having seen it bit soft but that bit of luck you need sometimes
I wouldn’t be upset but I’d acknowledge that the guy is notorious for that kind of behaviour in the penalty area. He had not intention of playing the ball.

You’ll be pleased to know that John Welsh was pretty good today, I know how big a fan you are.

Was David one of the ones who declared Welsh a terrible signing because he only played 15 games in the last 2 seasons but lauded Shackell on 19 games in 2 seasons or whatever a great bit of business?

As for the rest of the game, I thought the second half was similar to the first until Lincoln changed tactics and they opened a massive gap in the middle of the pitch. McCartan played a lot better in the second half. Was about to faint when Pett got the ball through 3 players but he luckily messed up. I had a glimmer of hope that McKeown would save it but then I remembered his record vs Akinde. The Imps were pretty quiet until their goal but decent numbers all the same.

As for us, McKeown was barely tested though he claimed a lot more crosses than usual. The back line was fairly solid but we got done a couple of times by a ball over the top. Whitmore started shaky but was excellent for the rest of the game. What today showed was that our midfield is so much better than previous years. Welsh and Hess were absolutely everywhere and Clifton got stuck in against much older players. And I never thought I’d say that Lincoln’s defence were terrified of Martyn Woolford, he was magnificent today and deserved a goal. If we can improve our finishing, we’ll be alright this season (Thomas should help with that). Have to agree with SoC that Lincoln’s last ditch defending was great, Bostwick especially. Wasn’t that impressed with Shackell mind. Overall, a point that could’ve and probably should’ve been 3.

Both clubs will have played games like today and got hammered (we did at home against Crewe last season) and played like today and drawn or won (Northampton away this season already comes to mind).

What we have is an away point- unbeaten run goes on and 2 home games to come.

The score says 1-1 and football throws up worse outcomes than today's point.

Most surprising stat of the day? Less than 5,400 town fans for the Lincs derby and 400 less home fans than were there for Forest Green? Didn't expect that.

Think that was the infamous Scotimp. Thought that Welsh would get the ‘runaround from younger players’; think Andrade got past him once? Anyway, as long as he doesn’t get injured, it’s a great signing.

Yeah I thought we would break the 8,000 barrier today as well today.

It's not a criticism- just thought it might be a few more nearer 8k.

It's still holiday season though!

I thought Lincoln were supposed to be good this season. I thought we thoroughly deserved the 3 points today and it was only Akindepen that saved the game for Lincoln. Not seen the pen again yet but it looked pretty soft at the time.

Thought our 2 standout players were Hessenthaler and Woolford and to be honest I wasn't impressed with Lincoln at all If that's the standard of promotion favourites then I don't think we'll have much to worry about this season.

Football is a marathon not a sprint but we're unbeaten so far this season-I'll take a point away in a local derby today no matter what the result could have been.

Lots to look forward to for the return leg in January

It obviously wasn't otherwise we'd have won. If we had played like we did last week against Swindon, we'd have won regardless of how you played today. That, and one game is an incredibly small sample size.

As it turned out, it sounds like we had a bit of a Northampton performance but when you're relatively solid defensively and give little away, there's always a chance you'll take something from a game as we have done for the last two years under DC. Plenty of occasions we've been short on a decent performance but won or drew.

Bostwick does a job in defence, but he's goes up a level when he's in CM, IMO. He's an absolute warrior that man.

I know Wharton had a knock, hence Shackell playing, but I'm hoping we're going to settle on a formation and XI soon. I'm all for being able to change things if needed, but not every game. We're at our best when we have a consistent line-up.

Allegedly, our club does appear to ‘massage’ the attendance figures for our bigger games though. If you know our stand capacities and 3 sides of the ground were sold out today, the the attendance was closer to 8200!
I wish they’d change tac with this because giving the correct attendance might convince more to turn up who may think they’re missing out on the ‘excitement’. I personally think it’s self defeating to try and save a little tax money! But hey this is all my personal opinion and I stand to be corrected.

Yep I agree with most of the above posts from both sides, however we wont just turn up and play like one of the favourites game in game out, especially with it being a local derby where games are usually tight and form goes out the window. Didn't DC say recently that he thinks we wont see the best out of Lincoln until maybe October?

All in all a good, if rather undeserved point.

Yes to Welsh and no I didn't about Shackell.
Shackell was out of favour at Derby I believe?
Just going on comments from colleagues at work who've seen Welsh play and didnt rate him.
Surprised Shackell started would have preferred Wharton instead, been really good so far.

You didn't play like you did against Swindon because we bossed you in the middle of the park though, so it sounds a) like sour grapes to bring that up and b) a bit condescending.

Yep, agree with that also it's one game so to make silly generalised comments like Les is a bit daft. Anyway see y'all in January, hopefully we'll have a different banner this time :woo:

Home double header with Bury and Notts County. We've had a really tough start - 4 points from those two and it has been a very good start to the season.

Lastly, didn't see any bother which was great and nice to see lots of support for the Demi Knight charity bike ride - good to see and hopefully there's a happy ending to her tragic story.

Anyone there see the alleged racist abuse of Akinde?
I know he's very unpopular with you guys but if true that's going way too far.

Can't have looked very far because, according to various posts across social media and forums, apparently Akinde got monkey gestures aimed at him (the individual clearly identifiable apparently) and kicking off down the side streets.

Point being, Les has used one game to generalise us, so I've generalised one game back.

It was more of an ironic post back.

If somebody has done that to Akinde they’re scum. I didn’t see any trouble or even a hint of it, draws tend to mellow the post match atmosphere somewhat. But you’ll always get an idiot, us more than most unfortunately.
