Gateshead have been kicked out of their ground because of money owed to the local council, but have now agreed in principle a takeover deal with former Rochdale chairman Chris Dunphy.

They will be allowed to play this season's remaining home games at the International Stadium, but cannot train there and have vacated their offices.

That will remain the case until the club and council reach a settlement.

What an absolute shambles this is, the FA should be ashamed of themselves letting these chancers do this to any football club, they recently appointment some bloke called Harrop as a director who supposedly ran Ilkeston into the ground, read on twitter they only have 4 members of staff currently on the books, one of which is manager Ben Clark the other is the only player left remaining Scott Barrow whose contract runs till June.

Really feel for Gateshead fans, met a few up there earlier in the season and seemed like a very friendly bunch. Never nice for any club to go through this, and hope the club pulls through for the sake of the fans.
Unsure how I feel about us getting a potential reprieve, especially at the expense of another club.

Reading about the Gateshead situation - does anyone know what the owners seek to gain from all this? Everyone involved sounds dodgy but I can't see what assets Gateshead has? Are they just incompetent?

Very sad what is happening the FA need to hang their heads in shame at what they’ve allowed to happen

This tweet explains our situation very well

It does, but it doesn't explain what they stand to gain (or am I missing something obvious?). Are they literally just hoping to do an MK Dons and start up a club somewhere, but still be in the Conference North?

Cala sounds like Stephen Vaughan, just using clubs and people to help his criminal activities.

If Gateshead take voluntary relegation my understanding is that you have to drop 2 division. It happened with Worcester a few seasons back.

"They had hoped to only drop to Step 4 but FA regulations state a club resigning from a league must drop two Steps."

Whoever sold the club in the first place has blood on their hands, there has to be a duty of care. It is well documented that the FA are absolutely useless so it's up to the fans to be looking into these people before they take over and make their life hell so they go away. Lack of fanbase and people being bothered results in something like this I guess.

Something going on with their official twitter too. Looks like it's vanished.

The more I read about the Gateshead situation, the more guilty i'm feeling that we are probably staying up at their expense.

Going by social media it sounds like their owner plans for them to groundshare with Newcastle Falcons.

Not sure we will see them out of the league, I think more likely they run a skeleton squad of obscure players on non-contracts who get caned every week (basically Staines this season). I can't see them affording the loan signings they talk about with the level of cost cutting that's gone on there.

The last two clubs I recall resigning from the National League (as opposed to folding) were Canvey Island and Grays Athletic, and both were placed in the Isthmian League Division 1 North at Step 4. Grays had been relegated to National South anyway but Canvey hadn't. Canvey asked to be placed at Step 3 in the Isthmian Premier Division but were refused.

My understanding is that you resign from the league, not just the division, and you restart from the bottom division of the league below.

"...working towards long term sustainability...", which roughly translates to having to drop about 5 leagues.

This was always going to happen with Gateshead at some point because although there have been sides who's owners have put more money in, from a % point of view, they were probably the highest bankrolled team under Bogie, Mills etc.

New club is being formed with the backing of the council and the people who wanted to buy the club .
Gateshead FC as it is now is dead as those criminals aren’t going to relinquish control of the club and I think they have no chance of lasting the next 3 months or getting into the league so it will be Aldershots lucky day when this happens

To be blunt, if the fans are setting up a new club and the current idiots don't sell up then I'd rather they went under now than field a team of kids and getting battered every week, or pulling out mid season. The important thing is that the fans have a credibly run club that they can get behind at any level.

Agree with you, I along with many others hope the club goes under as we just want it to be over with

The FA should be disgusted with themselves as well with the amount of evidence they have that Joe Cala is our real owner yet they just stand by and do nothing about it and they were supposed to have a meeting with Cala and Varghese last week but somehow they keep managing to get the meeting put back and put back

Just going to leave our GoFundMe page here if anyone would like to donate it would be very appreciated
