Felt Hitchin where a little unfortunate today, without the penalty I think they had a decent chance of a replay or perhaps even something more against what I thought was a very very average looking Solihull side. Unbelievable they are that high in the national league as their only tactic was punt it long to Wright which up until the penalty wasn’t working. Hitchin themselves looked a limited side but until the penalty Solihull presented little to show they were significantly above them in standard.

Felt as if Hitchin had a little better up front in terms of hold up play they could have done something today. Best player on the park by some distance was the Hitchin number 10 galliford, wouldn’t surprise me if he got picked up by a club of a higher league as technically a very accomplished player.

The penalty did look one to me and after it Solihull saw the game out with relative ease. Must say I’d be very pleased if picked out of the hat to play Luton on the basis of that performance!

Solihull are flat-track bullies par excellence. Their record against anyone decent in the National League is atrocious.

Indeed. In the first half we were positive and agressive while in the 2nd we were lethargic and tentative. Putting Sparkes on was an extremely mysterious decision too. Apart from taking a corner the guy had no involvement in the match, he’s too slow to get into the flow of the game.

The only reason I can think of is that he is very able at dead-ball situations and as we had been getting so many corners he felt we weren't taking much advantage of them.. or maybe as it getting quite stop-start with niggly fouls etc he wanted someone to deliver some decent attempts on goal/into the box. Alas, it coincided with the referee giving every free-kick to them from that sub onwards so this didn't work.

Well done Steve. I don't really care that my lot were beyond poor today, as the saying goes you can only beat etc. I thought we were going to get another goal and force a replay but that would've been so unfair on your side. Congrats.

By the way, Whistling Kettle had another poor match today. We should've had a penalty in the first half, and then there was another clear pen in the second half for you lot, when you were 4 nil up. At least he was fair to both sides I guess :ffs:

Alfreton 1-4 Fleetwood

The fourth goal was a tad harsh on us over the course of the 90 but that doesnt take away from the fact that Fleetwood`s class told.

Very hard to criticize given the opposition. I thought we did ok. No more than that. We were disappointing i the first half and let in a few soft goals. That said Fleetwood with Madden and Hunter were very clinical.

We were much improved in the second half and had a good15 minute spell after we scored.

Callum Chettle made a real difference when he came on in the second half. Hotte was excellent and probably MOTM for us

Have to say for the second game running Heath has got his XI wrong.

How he could start Clarke and leave Chettle and Bacon with pace to burn on the bench and start Riley who is awful over Gowling I just dont know

Today was never about the result and the FA Cup can be viewed as a success but beginning to lose faith in Heath. As he said himself 3 huge games now coming in the league either side of the Trophy that will shape our season.

Must beat Nuneaton next week

Thanks Vanni, a very fair assessment, had there been another five minutes we might have been lucky to scrape a replay, our lot were shot but they had worked their nuts off closing and pressuring for eighty minutes.

Biggest surprise for me was the complete lack of workrate from Cambridge until the last fifteen minutes. It could have been walking football at times. We don't get anywhere near that amount of time on the ball in either the NL or NLN.
I hope your upturn in league form continues.

Just back.

Walking football describes us perfectly. We didn't really earn the goals we got - just lumped forward to lumps trying to bully a tiring defence.

No chance I'll be making the effort to get to Boundary Park for my first visit next weekend (probably??).

Saving ourselves for the Checkatrade on Tuesday? - only need a draw against Colchester Reserves to pick up a decent cheque and go into the next stage. :ffs:

Good luck to the Lions with the draw and in the next round

I agree, we were poor today and for large periods of the game you wouldn't have been able to tell there were two leagues between us. We were missing Jermaine Hylton up front which leaves us with three very similar style forwards which made us quite one dimensional. Another clean sheet though, hopefully we'll get something like Guiseley at home giving us a serious chance of making the third round for the first time ever.
We should be competitive against whoever we play though.

We never do well at yours, you can come to ours - you're even kind enough to score for us at Nethermoor :D

Just had a read of the Bristol Rovers forum - pretty funny stuff. They really don’t like us much!

I’ve slept on it and I still think the referee must hope he wasn’t being assessed yesterday. He was worse than most of the refs we get for league games.

Congratulations to Guiseley?

I think you’re forgetting WHAT THEY DID.

Hampton & Richmond or Oldham. This is our best chance to make it to Round 3 yet

Home to Southport, provided we negotiate Oxford. Could not have been any better really.

Wrexham v Newport is a decent tie, should be on BBC Wales.

Guessing Solihull v Blackpool, Guiseley v Fleetwood, Maidstone v Oldham (if they beat Hampton & Richmond) and Sutton or Slough v Gillingham (if they beat Hartlepool) will be BBC and BT TV games.

Couldn't have been much worse for us if you do get through. A place we've been to recently, and not much chance of getting anything.

I would expect Billericay v Grimsby to be on tv if they get past Chesterfield.

Russ will be asking us for a few tips on Fleetwood
haha.

Not the best draw really as Fleetwood will bring very few 120 ish possibly less if its on TV in full.

That said at least they may get TV Money.

As you say, a possible tv game after Saturdays entertainment and a home draw which is great.
Anything more is a huge bonus.

Big crowd and will definitely be televised. Winnable tie too, I'm happy with this.

They will be hoping Salford win as they are at home to Scunthorpe in the 2nd round.

One for the TV I suspect.

Welsh derby will be interesting - is there a rivalry between Wrexham and Newport?

Oldham might be on again at Maidstone.

If we can negotiate Doncaster and Charlton beat Mansfield, that could well be a TV game

We had coins and bottles thrown at us the first time I went there, I assume they don't like us very much.
