Finally the season is back. Tough first game at home to relegated Plymouth. I expect Argyle to be towards the top this season, but I also think it might take them a while before they get to there best so probably no better time for us to play them, also probably a bad time for them to play us, a very settled team that had a fantastic home record last season. Plymouth have a very large contingent of former Crewe players though, which is dangerous for us as most of the ones we come up against last season scored Vs us even Harry pissing Davis.

I'm going fairly optimistic with this one.

Crewe 1-0 Plymouth (Kirk) 4,840 (1600 Pilgrims)

Would take a draw to be honest. They might have a lot of new faces and a new manager, but they still have outstanding individual quality, especially in Mayor. Would be a big boost if we could sneak a win though.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we lost this one. We are clearly still trying to learn how to play under Ryan Lowe, especially defensively. Also depends which of our strikers will be fit. Will Aimson won’t be fit enough having played 0 minutes in pre season, so unfortunately Scott Wootton will start

Think we will set up like this:

Alex Palmer GK

Scott Wootton CB
Niall Canavan CB
Gary Sawyer CB

Joe Riley RWB
Callum Mcfadzean LWB

Joe Edwards CDM
Danny Mayor CM
Conor Grant CM

Ryan Taylor ST
Dom Telford ST

Subs: Mike Cooper, Ashley Smith-Brown, New CB, Antoni Sarcevic, Byron Moore, Jose Baxter, Joel Grant

Expecting a loan signing upfront still and have a lad called Ben Hall on trial, CB.

2-2. 1588 Pilgrims.

Would also take a point. Think Crewe will be a decent side this year and I don't really know how we're looking.

Starting line up could be anything but I do hope Wootton doesn't make it.

I’d take a draw too. Our defence looks very dodgy especially as the linchpin, aimson, is unlikely to be fit. Our two wing backs got into great positions on Saturday, but crossing was not something either were competent at. Moreover, I suspect the two first choice strikers won’t be fit. We will get better, but this is a good time for anyone to play us.

There is a good chance arguably our best midfield player Wintle will have to play centre back depending on the injury Hunt suffered at Wrexham and if we don't sign anyone in the mean time. Id guess there is a good chance Mbula the trialist we've had all pre season will get signed but weather Artell will chuck hin straight in I'm not sure. Otherwise Ng could cover at centre back but that leaves us short at full back.

Crewe were strong at home last season.

Draw looks a decent bet. 2-2.

That Palmer was so dodgy for Notts here last season that if we don't try and walk the ball in like we always do every first half of the season, we should win this if we test him.

That said, Lowe's Bury were the best side (along with Mansfield) to come to the Alex last season and they dominated us on our own patch. But a lot of Northern based players have moved down to Plymouth, they're still fitting in despite many staying together, I think we may have come up against Plymouth at the right time with our own very settled squad, but I do think Plymouth will comfortably be a Top 7 side minimum this season.

Crewe 2-2 Plymouth (Kirk, Powell; Mayor, Sarcevic)

Any suggestions for the best boozer to visit prior to the game. Expecting to arrive around 11am so anything which is open, has a jukebox and is a bit of a dive will be perfect. Not interested in visiting the designated "away pub" if im honest, always full of idiot Argyle fans.

We have sold nearly 1500 with 200 tickets remaining.

Have fun. As everybody who have been in a packed Ice Cream Stand at Crewe will undoubtedly tell you its an accident waiting to happen. One stairway in and out and a concourse that is nowhere large enough to handle that number of fans especially at half time. Add over zealous stewarding into the mix to boot.

En route to Crewe, 1680 Pilgrims making the long trek North this morning. Decent spoons near the ground ? Back in the basement division but can’t wait - football is back

No spoons but plenty of shithole pubs along Nantwich Road.

As for the game, think we’ll put in a shift and go for it but there’s a lot of question marks over our defence with 1 fit CB with any experience. I’d personally throw Billy SD in.

2-2 Powell with one of ours. Grant or Moore for you.

Me too. I'm not sure why Travis Johnson is getting such a cold shoulder though, how is a converted Josh Lundstram suddenly better than him as the back up RB? My preference would be Ng to move across and Johnson to start. Risky, but I'd roll the dice.

I agree, always liked the look of Johnson, he's young and energetic, good at getting up and down the pitch, which is what you want from a full back nowerdays.

Terrible this is.

Wintle should not be at centre back, play a defender... desperately missing him right now, if he was where he should be I’m confident the score line would be different right now. We’re second to every ball, getting tackled far too easily, and don’t seem to have any other plan than get to the byline whack it in the box and hope for someone to fortunately knock it in.

If we don’t get at least 2 players in before the window is shut I’ll be worried. Mind you we are playing the probable champions who have far more resources than us.

Actually deserved something from that 2nd half performance then that sloppy 3rd goes in for their first shot of the half.

I give up. Forgot how annoying football was.

Jeeeez we hammered them 2nd half but I don't think we would have scored if we were playing til tomorrow. We need to massively address the centre back problem. We need Wintle in midfield. Also not convinced Jaaskelainen is up to it, anyvody got Ben Garrett's number?

3-0 massively flattered Argyle, they were decent in the 1st half but we were also poor. 2nd half it was one way traffic and you felt if we could get one, we would get so something out of it. Oh well bottom of the league, not great but not all doom and gloom just yet.

1st half we showed our quality. Admittedly second half we were poor, but it didn’t help when Joe Edwards came off. For the last 20/25 mins we didn’t have any defensive minded midfielders which is why you cut through us so easily.

Callum McFadzean was excellent going forward. Great start, still 2/3 additions yet.

Anyone understand why Kirk got booked? Made 2 of them look silly, booted it in his balls then gets squared up by 2 Argyle players and he gets the booking?

Ref was shocking

If you don't put the ball in the net, you deserve diddly squat. I know people will go after Jaaskelainen for the kicks leading up to the first 2. But the first was after a terrible pass from Nolan, the 2nd was coming out of his box to make sure Grant didn't get in behind. That being said, that 3rd was terrible. Can't be letting that go in from that angle.

Thought the midfield trio were dreadful individually and collectively, Lowery especially. How did he not only stay on for the whole 90 minutes, but win MOTM as well? Crazy.

The defence was makeshift sure, but it's only one player. The other 3 know each other and have played together a bunch. Not giving them a pass for today. Got to hope the collective decision making isn't that bad again, because I thought aside from a few moments from Powell, the rest of the team looked poor for the most part.

I thought he was doing ok until he missed that clear penalty on Powell. Then he failed to send Wootton off for a clear 2nd yellow. After that, it's no wonder things got out of hand. He didn't cost us the game, but he missed some big decisions.

Fairly sure MOTM is selected at Crewe by a committee of blind people.

5 should have seen red and Nolan should have had a penalty too.

I have to say your number 6 was shocking, especially first half. 16 was bullied in the first half aswell. I wish we didn’t drop off and sit back so much second half, the high press worked well in the first.

Think the entire defence and midfield was rubbish 1st half, 6 (Eddie) was solid 2nd half.

Thankfully I don’t think we’ll play a better side again this season, still we deserved something for our 2nd half efforts. Beat ourselves today. Made Grant and Moore look like Robben and Ribery ffs.
