Absolute shocker that. No way lower league refs should be doing these games if that's the result.

Excellent away performance from Notts. I hope Forte is ok for the second leg as he was excellent tonight.

Brilliant atmosphere in the ground. Very good game of football

The penalty decision was an absolute shocker and I’d be feeling robbed if it was given against us, but the referee was awful all game. Two incidents where McNulty was obstructed while trying to get on to a ball on the edge of the area and the ref gave a foul against him. Also not convince that Forte was onside for the goal when the ball was played into him, but I’d need to see it again. The pen will be all the motivation Notts need in the second game, hopefully we turn up.

Thought that a draw was probably fair on the balance of the game. We could have easily been a goal or two up at half time but we wilted as soon as Notts scored. They played really well defensively in the second half but we were also awful going forward. Going to need to try something different in the second leg I think.

Also, the pitch was a fucking disgrace. It’s a joke that it’s in this state but that’s what you get when you have penny pinching pests at landlords.
The commentator said the same thing re the "offside" goal. It was a square pass. Justified in allowing it to stand.

Looking at it on the replay, I think it’s onside. He’s level with the ball. The penalty decision
is incredible. One of the worst I’ve ever seen. All we can do is use it to create a siege mentality for Friday, I guess, players and fans.

Can’t really blame the ref for not seeing it and sending him off, but surely Davies is getting a retrospective ban for that stamp on Duffy!?!

Fully suspect that Coventry's Davies won't be playing Friday, two incidents where he should have seen red missed by the ref, one the stamp on Duffy and the second where he basically assaulted Forte off the ball

Fucking moronic from Davies, don’t know what he’s thinking doing that in this sort of game. If I wanted to be particularly sly I’d argue that he shouldn’t get a ban purely because Ameobi didn’t for elbowing McDonald in the league game at Meadow Lane but that’s irrelevant. I imagine he’ll be slapped with a three game and that’s is pretty fucked for the away leg given he’s our most physical presence in defence. I’ll be very surprised if we go through to be honest, we’re not streetwise enough and way too naive.

Side note but some of shouts on Twitter calling Bayliss a diver are slightly amusing. Whether you think it was pen or not there was contact and he not only appealed for a corner but told Tootle that he won the ball after the ref gave the pen.

I don’t think Bayliss dived (and nor does anyone at Notts really), was just a terrible decision, but he’s still going to get absolutely hammered for it on Friday because football.

I agree regarding the dive shouts being ridiculous. But you can't say 'whether you think it was a pen or not'; it's a rare instance in this game that it's clearcut & a fact, rather than open to interpretation/opinion.

As a neutral who watched the game in the pub with a Coventry fan and won £35 thanks to btts, corners and card my take on the game is thus....

I thought Coventry shaded the game overall but Notts goal was quite ropey as the guy that did the sliding tackle (great desire by the way) handled the ball, however great finish by Forte.

The penalty was a farce and Notts can feel very hard done by.

Enjoyed the match in awful conditions and not a bad advert for league 2

Considering the positioning of Coventry fans across the length of the pitch, he'll be well supported.

Having now finally seen it again I think you’ve got a point with the handball shout you know. Definitely seems to hit his arm ok the Sky replays.

Also agree that it was a good game. Probably the best of the play-offs so far from what I’ve seen. I’m sure the return leg will be a cracker, especially so given the controversy of the first.

Deliberate ? When sliding on that wet surface? In real time looked fine and would of been harsh IMO.
The not given ‘clear’ offside (not one but three Cov players) for that chance was another potential shocker. Davies is a very lucky boy he wasn’t sent off in this game and therefore suspended for Friday night. Dickhead move that.

Sets up and intriguing second leg, always felt we needed to win the home tie anyway, and that’s basically the case.

Decent game again between these two sides

It hits his arm but he knows nothing about it, would be incredibly harsh to give that. Albeit not as harsh as that fucking penalty.

Agree that the handball only became clear on slow motion replay so difficult to know if deliberate but a very good chance it wasn’t as you say he was sliding in on a wet surface.

The stamp by Davies was dreadful. Perhaps had the Notts player lay on the ground and pretended his leg was in agony something may have been done but he was honest and got up and showed his anger. It was a completely sly and pointless stamp, that took away, what was a good contest.

No idea which way the second leg will go.

The ref made plenty of woeful decisions and probably gave the pen due to the abuse he was receiving.

Coventry were head above us for at least the first 20. We came back into it from then without really doing anything.
If I was a City fan I’d be livid they didn’t convert the chances.

Any footage of the penalty? I managed to switch the game off just before it.

He made lots of patchy decisions both ways as League Two refs do, but he only made one woeful decision. I just hope it doesn’t end up deciding the tie.

Correct. You had two big decisions against you, we had 6/7 poor little decisions.

Should Drysdale be involved being from Lincolnshire?

I don’t care where he comes from he’s just awful. We’ve had some good refs in recent games at meadow lane such as the one against Luton. So disappointing to Drysdale.
