I like Dan Jones, good player, always looks comfortable on the ball. I thought he played further forward though. I remember him scoring in the 3-3 draw against us (I think), he cut in off the right wing and popped one deep into the keeper’s far post out of nowhere, completely stunned us.

When he was with us he was either cb or lb. He was team of the year at left back.

Every game he played the season just gone, he played centre back (the team of the year thing was nonsense). That's his best position. The season before though, when he scored a belter against Wrexham, he had a run of games in midfield and out wide as a winger, but was predominantly our left-back.
He'll start whenever Salford play three at the back, and I'm sure he'll get in ahead of Pond before too long.

only scored 4 goals in 2 seasons at Barrow - and 2 of them were against Wrexham - he got the 1st goal in the 3-1 win at the Racecourse ground last season (header from a corner).
can play anywhere apart from striker and goalie, but best at centre back;- best long range passer at Barrow since Kenny Lowe.

The owner is happy to pay. Its probably trying to convince smith himself its the right move
Not just that but we're still in discussions with Matt Gilks over a new deal so if he signs, Grant will probably be allowed to leave.

Mandeville is a quality signing for Chesterfield, not played for us in a long time but was quality in our promotion season from league 2.

Oscar Gobern midfielder signed [from Eastleigh]

this means Mitch Brundle probably won't be staying. His wife is from the NE. Are Hartlepool looking for midfielders?

It's weird seeing Dover sign people early. I'm used to the Kinnear years where you didn't seem to have anyone under contract going into August.

no sodding about with dozens of trialists because Kinnear was too busy teaching has to be better.

No I wouldn't of thought so unless Hignett is gonna go for some revolutionary 8 man midfield next year.

getting drained by all these signing :)
Seems a bit weird you're giving every signing a 2 year deal though. Always thought handing out contracts for more than a year at non league level is far to risky. Gives players far to much security so they don't always have to be at their best.....

We’ve signed Bagasan Graham on a one year deal, any good Ebbsfleet fans?

If a player is under about 27 and no fitness concerns, then a 2-year deal is usually ideal. You can build around them, a bit of continuity, and I disagree with that point that it gives them too much security - you'll get the odd mercenary who'll only start to play when their contract needs renewing, but on the most part, you have to hope they'll be aiming to move upwards. Clubs like us, and I imagine Dover, will really benefit from selling players.

The £300k we've gained from selling players under contract far outweeighhs the salaries of those who have sat around doing nowt.

We gave Quigley a 3-year deal, and the manager even said that he hopes a club comes in to buy him. We fucked up on not offering Dan Jones a new deal early enough - would easily have got £100k for him.

I still can't get over the 3 year deal with Quigley. He was awful with us. Wasn't even getting in our team towards the end of the season which says everything you need to know.

Knowing our luck he will be top goal scorer in the league next season...

There’s pros and cons to both I think.
Giving a 2 year deal, you can secure the services of a player and stop him leaving for free over the next few windows. 2 year deals can also help seal the deal if a player is weighing up their options and they’re looking for security i.e. if they have to uproot their family etc. The 2 year deal will look more enticing than the 1 year offers.

Comparatively, giving a player a one year deal can give the player an incentive to earn an extra deal and remain at the club if that’s their aim (probably rare at this level though). Also, if you’ve signed a load of shite, you can bin them off after a year and try again with a new lot.. woop.

Happy with the Mandeville signing. Can see him and Boden playing up top together with Mandeville being slightly deeper as more of a number 10 to link it all together.

I think Sheridan will stick with the 5-3-2 formation he used last season, and going off of that, I’d say we need at least 4 more signings.

Two wingbacks (that can actually beat a man and put a cross in, sick of full backs that just turn inside and take the safe option like we’ve had for 3 years now), another Centre back, and an experienced midfield enforcer that can actually pass... can’t cope with another season of watching Curtis Weston boot the ball out of play every time he attempts a pass!!

Some clever business this summer but as I said before, I don’t want to see us over stretch and start messing with financial issues.

Will mewling manweasel George Porter find himself on the sidelines this season with your new Cheek-Clifton pairing up front? Because the thought of him rotting on your bench would give me a happy little face.

Devonte.. Devante.. I don’t know. Either way, Redmond is now confirmed on a 2 year deal. Super signing and feels like a real coup, considering Salford wanted to keep him. Might be the creativity we’ve been crying out for for years.
