Likewise with "mahoosive" Newcastle and Gateshead.

Just don’t boot out the club who inherited Leeds City’s position and results in that fateful 1919 season!

You inherited their results? That's a bit erm, unorthodox. I think we should have an official inquiry into that.

They survived until October went bust and we took over the rest of the season with their results up to that point in our tally.

Last time a club has folded during a season in the EFL...

I think both Aldershot and Maidstone went bust during the season in the 90s from memory.

So Port Vale's entire league existence is based on a fiction.

Be gone with you! Go to the national league and earn your league status the proper way!

Vale are the MK Dons of the 1910's? Who'd have known... shameful, but at least they're yet to cream themselves over stealing our Tequila chant. Anticipating this in the near future, the tinpot bastards!

Massive Carlisle and Swindon. :shifty:

Can't wait for sleeping giants Plymouth to take their rightful place in the Premier League one day. They are simply HUGE. Undoubtedly the biggest club ever to grace L2. Bigger than Wrexham, bigger than Darlo, basically the Barcelona of the lower leagues, bigger than God himself*.

Speaking of the Anglo Italian cup, as schoolkids we all had choose some side from the Italian/German/French/Spain etc leagues to 'support' or follow. My Italian side was Ascoli, so I'll just leave this here -

Oliver Bierhoff was an Ascoli player at the time, while Notts Co's striker was the one and only Devon White :ffs::ffs::ffs::ffs::ffs:

Leave Bruno alone. I was there as a teenager watching German international Bierhoff and co, and big Devon got the winners medal  . Great day and made up for losing to Hagi’s Brescia lot the year before. Back to back finals at Wembley , crazy days

Probably because Carlisle are miles away but I never think of them as being a big team.

Well, compared to most in L2 those clubs are big. Oldham should be in there, too.

I wouldn't see Carlisle as bigger than Oldham, us, County etc. Although their glory years in the seventies were as good as most at this level. Bradford and Plymouth are big cities with good support, but they have not done any more historically than a number of League One / League Two clubs.

way I see it is that Bradford are the biggest club followed by Plymouth then Swindon/Tranmere. Carlisle are about the size of a Oldham/Port Vale, the next group down from that if you like.

I don't think the human mind could handle so much data to come out with a good decision but a spreadsheet might be able to come out with a limited but at least multi-factored opinion. Couldn't we agree on some parameters for defining a big club, punch some data into Excel and see what it has to say?

Average attendance
Maximum attendance
Minimum attendance
Historical success (e.g. pts per trophies)
Average league finishes over a certain time span
Capacity of stadium
Wealth of current owners
Stature of town/city

Might be a boring mind? Frealaf (you did a similar spreadsheet prediction thing once)? Luke Imp (you like stats)?
I like my stats, but I haven't got 4 days spare.

I bet djs and/or StrangelyBrown can fill in some of those blanks, though.

nowt against Exeter but why so bitter about Argyle? They are clearly a bigger club, not saying better but certainly bigger than the Grecians.

Wimbledon won an FA Cup before falling out of the League (MK Dons fans need not reply). In a different era, Spurs won the FA Cup as a non-league team.

Man United are much biggest then everyone down here. Not sure why you're worried.

We get bigger crowds home and away then Crawley, Stevenage, Morecambe and Macclesfield. And like those we have quite a long history at a decent level in non league. So we're not 'far smaller' then them.

We had football league history before! Essentially we would be like Notts County or Chesterfield popping back up in a few years into the EFL nicking someones spot who went bust.

The fall out from the 1919 Leeds City demise and Vale rise was the creation of the beast.... Leeds United.

you can make a case for Crawley and Morecambe but Stevenage and Macclesfield are both bigger

Not 'far bigger' though. Stevenage were only founded in 1976. By that point we were nearly 90 years old.

They were promoted to the Conference for the first time only 4 years before us.

far bigger would be the majority of prem clubs compared to anyone in this league be it you us or Bradford.

bigness is all relative so in the context of the lower leagues they are just a bit bigger

even in the greater context someone like plymouth are really only a bit larger than say a Mansfield or Colchester

True, it's all relative. But to say we're far smaller then the likes of those I mentioned is just plain wrong. Macclesfield have a more illustrious history granted. But the other three we're pretty much on a par with, and get better crowds.
