I think our official Twitter has been hijacked tonight by that 12 year old kid who used to do Lincoln’s in the National League. :lac:

West Ham knocked it around like it was a training session for most of the game.

A shame that Amond missed a sitter from 5 yards before we then gifted Wilshere the opener. Overall no complaints, a 2 nil loss is a respectable score line.

Really impressed with Abrahams upfront. I think he could be a big player for us this season.

Really good game to watch. 2-2 until last few minutes then they scored two, one from a penalty.

Our new centre back from Chelsea, Josh Grant, has afterburners. I have not seen that sort of pace in the centre backs at Home Park since we had Matt Doube in the Championship years. One play stands out, he was way off the play and made up a huge amount of ground on the striker and got to the ball first.

One worrying thing is that Taylor came off at half time, I assume, injured, so our fifth and six choice strikers had to play, and may well have to on Saturday.

Lost 6-1. Villa were good and very clinical, we probably created as much as them but that's the difference between league 2 and the premier League. Some real positives, Owen Dale was brilliant, beat his man virtually every time just needs work on his finishing. Abedisi had a great debut at left back, very composed for such a youngster on his debut. Lowery was his normal quality self. Anene looked decent when he came on and can see him being a handful for league 2 defenders.

Was good seeing a bigger crowd in GR than normal, atmosphere was decent, also Credit to the villa fans also probably the loudest to visit GR in a long time.

Think he was just resting Taylor. I’d also argue Curtis Nelson was just as quick as Josh Grant. Josh Grant actually reminds me of Curtis Nelson.

We’ll know after a few games, but to me he looked quicker than Curtis, based on admittedly only one game. But whatever, for league two he is very fast for a centre back.

Our first ever win against Premier League opposition and 2nd time in 3rd Round.
Congrats to Colchester and delighted to see Sky fall on their arse showing Newport.
Hopefully us and Colchester get good draws. (Along with Grimbo/Macc - that must have been biblical rain there, bugger all in York)

Fair play Colchester. Just had a look at the palace team and it was fairly strong, brilliant result. Congrats also to Crawley a much weaker Norwich but still a great result.

Some Crewe fans saying we should be positive tonight, disagree. Yeah we played some terrific attacking football and deserved more out of it, but we conceded and folded whenever they came near us. Swindon fans were right, Olly Lancashire is dreadful, a shambles of a defender all night and Richards was also schooled in goals. Defence needs addressing.

I would agree that the goals we conceded isn't just because of the different quality, but the way we defended. It's just basics. Tracking men, winning battles, offside traps. Don't get that right and you are in trouble.

However, let's not lose sight of the fact we've conceded 3 goals in our last 4 league games. Given the absence of players through injury and suspension back there, that's not bad. I think the defence can hold up until January and then we can address it there.

Dale needs way more game time. Like, a lot more. He seems to make an impact every time he comes on. Also good to see Anene have a solid debut.

Hopefully they can shake it off and get ready for Saturday.

Never seen weather like it at a football match. It went from light drizzle onto a dry pitch to looking unplayable in about 10 minutes.

Agree defensively we weren't great tonight and Lancashire got exposed badly, he looked so slow. But you e got to remember who were up against. He's looked fine at league 2 level bar getting booked abit to often. But you've got to take the positives. Most teams when they play at premier club put 11 men behind the ball and try and Scape a 1-0 or 0-0. We went for Villa and went toe to toe with them. Naive abit yes, but very entertaining. We matched there 17 efforts on goal, not many teams at our level do that Vs a premier League team. If we were as clinical as them that game could have been alot closer, if it finished 6-4 or 5 nobody could say anything, 6-1 was definitely flattering.

According to our manager we put in an “amazing performance”

It’s funny how we keep putting in all these amazing, brilliant, wonderful, high quality performances but still get fucking beat every week.

Well done to Colchester and Creepy, hopefully rewarded with good ties next. Most likely Wigan away like, knowing how draws usually go in this comp.

Yeah, unbelievable. Not seen a storm like that for years. At least neither side were 2 or 3 goals up. Not sure when the game will be re-arranged though as we have a EFL Trophy game next Tuesday. Maybe the EFL Cup will trump that.

Be a bit of added spice in the re-arranged game if we pull a plum tie in the draw tonight.

The third round isn't until September 24th so no harm in playing the rearranged game on the 10th.

Lost 2-1.

Once again we concede two goals early in the game and then the second half is all about whether we can get back into it. Signs of improvement at least on this occasion. Against Mansfield and Cheltenham we could have played all night and not got back into it, whereas here we did get a goal back and might have gotten two had we kept 10 men on the pitch.
Agree with a lot of that, although we continued to have our chances and could have had a couple more with better finishing.

McKirdy looked excellent when he came on, and frightened us with his pace. I thought Iredale was very good as well, while Olofela Olomula put in a good shift up front.

Would have thought you'd be nearer the top than the bottom of L2 on that performance. Good luck.

Will it be on TV?
Hasn't been confirmed yet because BT are apparently tabling an unprecedented mid-season multi million pound bid to prise the League Cup broadcasting rights from Sky immediately so they can show the re-arranged fixture.

They should have hired Lincoln's who forgets to turn the sprinklers on, although the deluge would still happen, just with Danny Cowley's tears in place of rain.
