Not a bad idea that. I've been in favour of scrapping it altogether for a while now, but reformatting it a la Scotland would make sense.
Agreed.

Although, with the JPT trophy (or whatever it's called these days) doing the same I'm not sure it would help.

Replacing it for friendlies though is a cracking idea

It's a good opportunity for lower league clubs to get a chance for a decent tie against a Prem team, potentially TV money and half decent revenue from the game if you can get to R2/R3+. The money from our second round 4-0 win over Man Utd a few years ago allowed us to sign two players we wouldn't have been able to afford the wages of otherwise and both were key in getting us promoted that season (Jordan Spence and Carl Baker).

So I think it does have value. Unlike the EFL Trophy (aka the Leasing.com trophy) which IS a massive waste of time and a huge inconvenience to L1/L2 teams. The only teams it benefits are the U21 sides that enter.
Forgetting the rights and wrongs of the EFL Trophy, which I'm in agreement with, that also has value in terms of finance. We made over £600k (I think £800k was mentioned but I'd have to double check that) from it two seasons ago, and that helped us put together some of last seasons squad (notably Akinde and Andrade) so that had it's use as well, especially as your earn money in every game via a win or draw, too.

The Carabao is just a competition that's always at the front end of the season when players needed 'bedding' in, fitness wise, not made to play several Saturday/Tuesday weeks. EFL usually starts September I think (although we have Man Utd U21's in August due to the European commitments...

For me, the Carabao should just chuck everyone in straight away and start it slightly later in the season (the final is in February?!).

Total waste of time this competition these days , no prize money for winning, only a 40% cut of tiny crowd plus expenses from tonight, the big clubs put the stiffs out and we'll be doing the same tonight as our management wont risk key players tonight.
We'll be making at least 7 changes and possibly more just give players a rest as like most teams we'll be playing Saturday Tuesday until the middle of next month and some of senior pros missed a big chunk of pre season added to that we have a few injuries plus a key defender serving the last of his 3 game ban.
Be careful what you wish for.

The only reason the Checkatrade, or whatever it is called now, offers better prize money is as a bribe from the EPL clubs to entice the lower division clubs to take it seriously and soften the ground for under-21 teams in Leagues One and Two.

I still like the League Cup and think it has major significance for clubs like us, historically and financially (our two greatest cup runs were both in this competition, in 1994 and 2000). If we get through to round two and draw Everton, it would have the same effect on us financially as the Spurs cup tie did last season.

We desperately need a striker 20 attempts, 63% possession and lose 1-0

Good to beat those mongs in Norbiton. Southend away as a second round reward is hardly inspiring though. I imagine the feeling is mutual for Southend fans.

Our reward for beating vale away is morecombe at home. I am sure we can both barely contain our excitement.
3 stands can be closed I think
Or we could all sit in the dugouts.

Didn't give Huddersfield too much of a sniff tonight by all accounts and was probably comfier than the scoreline suggests.

They made 10 changes, I think. We made 5 and that was realistically all we could do otherwise we'd have been throwing 17 year old kids on but we still made planned subs by the looks of it.

Everton again (3 times in 3 seasons albeit the first was their U21's in the Checkatrade), which is a good draw and hopefully a TV game because there only look to realistically be 3 other decent shouts - Newport/West Ham, Forest/Derby and, if it happens, Rotherham vs Wednesday.

QPR V Pompey is a good shout. We'll take a few

Losing 2-1 to Bolton's youngsters after an hour, we eventually found our shooting boots and won 5-2 - to be rewarded by a home tie with Carlisle. Should be winnable, and they normally bring a decent following with them.

Awful individual errors led to an experienced albeit 2nd string Hull city team take an unassailable 3-0 half time lead at Prenton Park tonight. Much better 2nd half from Tranmere who were desperately unlucky not to score a consolation goal or two. Corey Blackett- Taylor deservedly man of the match, if he can produce this level of performance consistently he won’t be at Prenton very long.

TWTD is going fucking mental after we've crashed out tonight.

I'm clearly in the minority that's relieved thinking we have a paperthin squad and it's a positive that we don't have to worry about this.

You lost to a team with a long unbeaten run at home a league above ...

Not much of a surprise surely ?

Even more so when no doubt you have an eye on a promotion race .

Beat Cheltenham 3-0, didn't watch the game

Home to Brighton next round. Would have preferred them away but should be fun anyway

It was essentially b team versus b team looking at all the changes made. Cant really draw too many conclusions from the game except that up front especially you haven’t got much depth at all outside Norwood.

Thought Dobra looked quite bright for you and Downes came on and looked decent. The rest of them were pretty poor though.

Lovely beating Peterborough 1-0 again with mostly squad players. Cameron Brannagan again getting the winner.

Really sad that Malachi Napa had his leg broken from a bad challenge by Peterborough's no.2 according to those who saw it. He is having a op on it today.

We have Millwall in the next round at home.

A bunch of underage kids - and yet Blackpool fans still take it to heart.
