Paul Konchesky has joined East Thurrock as player/assistant manager
....back in November he left The Circus due to 'other commitments' .... those 'commitments' rumoured to be running his own burger van.... I guess vegetarianism has spread from Forest Green to the depths of Essex.

Since my last post....

Out's;

Robbie Cundy to Bath. They must be splashing the cash there? He's a great player, our biggest loss IMO.

Kieran Parselle to Chippenham. Meh, he was alright at times but no big loss frankly.

Ed Williams to Kidderminster. Was our main source of creativity and player of the season but a total craven with the ball at times.

In's;

Jake Jackson from Chippenham. Seems to have been prolific at Southern Prem level but struggled at Chippenham last season. We've obviously seen something in him but not exactly an inspiring signing.

Jack Deaman has re-joined from Hereford. Seems to have struggled there which is surprising as he was quality when he was with us (and Salford) at a higher level.

Matt Liddiard from Evesham. Their player of the season and scored a ton of goals from midfield, albeit two leagues below. He's another who has been here before and to be honest I've never rated him.

We need 2-3 more, certainly more firepower. Harry Williams is training with us but hasn't signed yet, assume he is longing it out in case a league club comes in as he has the ability to play for one. Obviously hoping that doesn't happen!

Jury well and truly out on this squad right now. Marc Richards really turned aorund our form when Tim Harris left and we looked dead and buried at that point, we got to s stage where the play-offs were a realistic proposition.

However personally think we are gonna struggle. We've lost so many first teamers with bags of National League experience and we still haven't laid a brick for the new stadium we are supposed to be returning to next season. The club irritates the F**K out of me.

Weston at home to start the season then - they're a bit of an unknown quantity as always. Truro away on the 22nd December has a Xmas jolly written all over it (provided the game goes ahead).

I'm also glad we were given Slough as our festive fixture, there will be more of an atmosphere between both teams compared to last year against Hampton.

March is a wallet cruncher with Gloucester, Bath and Torquay away and yes, I do intend to be at all three.

Home to start the season, home on non-league day and home to end the season - it's only taken us until our 5th year in the league for the latter to happen.

Surprised to get Welling away for Hamlet's first match in this league. We were never going to get them at Christmas with Dartford in the same division, but I expected that to be a midweek game.

Annoying to have Truro away on FA Cup 1st Round weekend as it's impossible to plan in advance until both clubs are out of the cup and could end up as a midweek game in the depths of winter.

Good luck with him mate he's got a dreadful attitude problem,we loaned him out after his tantrums and he's nowhere near as good as he thinks he is,last chance saloon for him i'd say.

We've got Jake Mawford on trial at the moment, previously of WSM. Looks pretty decent albeit playing against sides 2-3 leagues lower in friendlies. Seems to be the creative player we need.

Matt Liddiard signed for us then instantly went for a trial with Newport County lol. However after 2 games with them they didn't take it further and he's back with us. Would have been bizarre had they signed him.

Squad is taking shape, still a bit concerned about firepower though. Danny King is a young lad from our youth team who has scored a few in pre-season but not sure he's ready for such a big step up yet.

Two actual decent signings on paper last night; Ryan Dickson should be one of the better players at this level, while Cameron is a bit of an unknown but expect him to be a starting CB for us. Positives are that we can actually field an XI for the Chelmsford game which is nice.

What is the going rate for adult admission in National South? Dulwich will be charging £12, I know some clubs will be £15,which seems a bit steep. I've just heard Woking will be £18.

£13 is the going rate I’d say. We’re charging £15 from next season which is a joke but Woking’s £18 is an utter piss take.

Paying 15 quid to watch National League football is bad enough, let alone teams charging that for regional football.....Woking charging £18 is just taking the piss big time.

I believe ours is £13 which isn't too bad considering we're staying full-time this season. Woking should be embarrassed to charge that much for regional football.

So much for him saying they would stick to a budget of 10-11k a week. He seems to think their budget of just under 18k a week is sustainable

Also i thought he was gonna let Harry Wheeler manage the team

Tamplin said: “Harry and the boys have asked me to come back because they’ve seen what I have done at the club and they believe I’m the final piece of the jigsaw.
“As a result, I’m back as the No.2. I won’t be dressed in the training gear and I’ll be what they call a suit manager.
“I was a sledgehammer that didn’t work last year. I want to be there as a rock and be there when it goes wrong. I’m completely the opposite to what I was last season.
“I’ve said sorry to Harry and the lads and put everything right.
“Harry is in charge because he is an amazing manager. The club is very lucky and blessed to have Harry as manager.
“I am the assistant manager and Danny Hazle is the No.3. We have said that to the players.
“Harry and I will pick the side together and it always has to be picked together, but if there are two players fighting for the same spot in the team then Harry gets the final say.”

You'll get used to this kind of nonsense after a few weeks. The bloke just can't help himself. Someone I trust recently spoke directly to Wheeler and apparently he said he'll walk away if Tamplin starts interfering.

"I want to be there as a rock and be there when it goes wrong." That's the opposite of what he did last season. Dulwich would have been champions with 95 points last season if Tamplin hadn't had that bizarre meltdown at Hendon when the wheels were falling off and they'd lost several games with reports of him having a punch up with the goalkeeper, walked out during the second half, and disappeared to Amsterdam for several days. After that he seemed to stay in the background for the rest of the season, let Wheeler get on with it, and they didn't lose another game.

Hmm... looks like Truro may well be groundsharing at Plainmoor next season.

Is this "next season" starting in a fortnight, or 2019/20?

Really want to do Truro but Hamlet are duethere on FA Cup 1st Round weekend so there's a good chance it'll end up on a midweek in winter.

Apologies, should have said this season. I feel for any season ticket holders who’ll now have to do that round trip.

As much as people rave about Truro away, the city itself isn’t all that. First time we played there, we took around 300 on the first May bank holiday fantastic trip -ask Aber about his memories - but since then, the last two visits have been at less favourable times, and we were down to just over a 100 last season.

Truro is dull as dishwater. Even Newquay is pretty scuzzy , though there is a pub there open to 4am in the morning. Need to fit in trips to Falmouth and Padstow for a better experience.

Thoughts on Concord this season? Seem to have invested more but wouldn't expect them to b much more than mid-table.

That first year was eventful... last season I took the effort to properly venture into the city centre, with the exception of the cathedral it's a run of the mill small sized town. Treyew Road is a soulless experience however, temp seating everywhere and too open to generate any atmosphere.

Thoughts on Concord this season? Seem to have invested more but wouldn't expect them to b much more than mid-table.

I don't get the hype, players on the wrong side of 30 (Billy Knott excepted) on 2 year deals is not a good idea. Yes they have creative, experienced players in midfield and up front but absolutely nothing at the back. I think they'll struggle, however I also thought Braintree and Truro would go down last season so take my opinion with a pinch of salt.

Edit: Welling are my dark horse tip this year. I've just stuck a fiver on them at 20/1.

It's really just the novelty of going further West than ever before. I'd be equally excited about Workington or Blyth.

They've recruited an inexperienced manager from the league below who did nothing special at Leatherhead on a big budget and has taken a load of Isthmian players with him. I'd be amazed if they finish above Dulwich, yet they're about half the odds to win thedivision.

I don't know this division, but given that three teams have to go down I won't be surprised if they're one of them.

Truro having to play 200 miles away at Torquay- naturally that has not gone down well with their fans!

Billericay have signed Callum Kennedy from AFC Wimbledon and Rickie Hayles from Dulwich Hamlet. Going the other way is Byron Lawrence who leaves Billericay to sign for Dulwich.

Harry Wheeler isn't stupid and granted I'm only basing this off one game but that defence needed improving big time or it would have been exposed terribly in the Conny Sarf.

A few other clubs are announcing signings whilst Hampton will announce 8 new signings tomorrow morning - if the rumour mill is correct 3 players we had last season will be heading there.

Byron Lawrence looks an excellent signing for us. He's hardworking, a good passer and has already scored two goal of the season contenders before it's even started!

So....here's how our squad is shaping up for 2018/19

Defence
Preston Edwards (GK)
Amadou Tangara (GK)
Daniel Pappoe (from Foresta Suceava)
Magnus Okuonghae (from Maidstone United)
Michael Chambers
Nathan Green
Sanchez Ming
Quade Taylor

Midfield
Byron Lawrence (from Billericay Town)
Nyren Clunis
Anthony Cook (from Ebbsfleet United)
Michael Onovwigun
Ashley Carew

Attack
Nathan Ferguson
Jay May (from Margate)
Gavin Tomlin
Dipo Akinyemi

We're also in the process of tying up deals for two more forwards: ex-Gillingham's Greg Cundle and Walter Figuera (ex-Chelsea academy). Could perhaps do with another defensive midfielder so I'm hoping Ibrahim Kargbo re-signs.

We lost 3 very good and influential central defenders during the summer but I think we'll be OK with our new duo, especially with the vastly experienced Magnus Okuonghae. The other new signings look good too, particularly Byron Lawrence. The loss of Reisse Allassani to Coventry was a major blow but he was always going to be snapped up by a League 1 or Championship team over the summer.

Can't wait for the season to start and with a good pre-season nearly over I'm quietly confident that we'll be challenging at the right end of the table. I took a small each-way bet on us at 40-1 which I think is ridiculously generous!

Okuonghae was perma-crocked when at Luton, I don't think he particularly impressed when playing either although this was at L2, streets above the Conny Sarf.

As for the Truro situation, it's a joke to their supporters and those away supporters who have booked train tickets and hotels. The 108 miles one way (fastest route) is the same mileage as the Stones playing home games at Bath City.

On the Stones also, common sense has finally been reached and matchday admission is back to what it was last season (£13).

Crazy as it sounds, I'd take one season playing that far away to come back to a new stadium rather than 12 seasons in 4 different places....
