not exactly overwhelmed by either our retained list or the two from glos, board seem to be going down the consolidation route and hope to survive first season,i was certainly expecting a bit more ambition from the club than staying on one training session a week with a part time manager, seems despite selling over 850 season tickets so far our budget will be little more than it was in southern prem,(less than slough, kettering and kings lynn last year).

Double figures in arrivals now as Bobby Johnson joins from North Ferriby.

Cant recall any outfield North Ferriby players standing out last year? Not sure about this one.

Four teenagers from our successful youth system given professional deals – Alex Downes, Matty Thomson, Rhain Hellawell and Iwan Murray. All apart from Murray were featuring in the first team at the back end of last season.

Good prospects and bulks the squad up more.

Louis almond, Courtney meppen Walter and Wes Fletcher
Two hardly prolific strikers to add to an already goal lacking team and a fat knacker in midfield, hardly amazing, but we'll wait and see.

But seriously, what is with Courtney Meppen-Walter? Hasn't he spent a year slumming it in the EvoStik regional divisions at Glossop?

Yes, the two strikers goals record are hardly impressive and we know about CMW, unless he has actually managed to get himself fit and lost a couple of stone. As you say we wait and see,, but it's not that impressive.

He's not a bad player he just needed to lose a lot of weight. Hopefully a full season playing regular football has helped, no matter how low down that level is.

Thanks for the extra info re Jordan Keane. It'll be interesting to see where Gannon uses him as defensive midfield is a position we need to improve from last season. With Smalley being retained and a deal fro Ash Palmer from Guiseley supposedly done you'd expect Keane to be used as a DM. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Turnbull will take the DM role and the captain’s armband I reckon - he was getting up to speed towards the end of the season.

Gannon hasn’t given much away but I think we might see a 3-4-1-2 as our first choice formation next season. The fact that he offered O’Halloran a contract as back up and there has been no talk of attacking widemen is pointing me towards that. Also Mulhern doesn’t strike me as someone who can lead the line on his own.

Wouldn’t mind bringing back a few former loanees in Kirby, Brewster and Stott. Brewster would be the wild card as he majorly failed to impress at Chorley but I reckon it’s worth the gamble. Alongside them three and Palmer we would just need a target man and I reckon we’d be good to go.

CMW was too lazy to even know his own full name

We had Fletcher about a decade ago when in league two and he was actually pretty decent - surprised he’s ended up down here.

Almond seemed to do well at Southport and I was surprised he didn’t contribute more at York.

Despite CMW's integral role in Macc's National League title-winning side as a pre-season friendly trialist, I'm surprised he's made his way back into the NLN.

You mean 20 minutes of standing in the centre circle trying to ping the ball over the keeper every time he received it?? He and Richard Brodie both trialled for us in that game - I'm surprised the pitch didn't sink under the weight. :bg1:

Louis Almond is player who I wish he had stayed, injured a lot but had some very good games, good player.
Wes Fletcher was brilliant 4 years and would of got us into div 1 until a bad day in March at Portsmouth.our 2 best players got serious knee injuries in same game and both never came back to anywhere near the level.would love to see Wes do well but think the injury has done his career in.
Never heard of other one.

Getting CMW and Brodie in pre-season is an effective way of lengthening your odds before going on and smashing the league. If Askey's recently bought a big house and fancy car I'd be suspecting foul play.

I see Guiseley have signed Niall Heaton from Nuneaton. Played under Russ/Clayts at Alfreton. Typical NLN centre back. Gives 100% capable of the occasional calamity. Nice lad.

I was thinking the same about the formation. 3-4-1-2 With Minihan and Duxbury providing the width. Think Cowan will become the right sided central defender with Smalley and by the sounds of it Palmer.

Turnbull and Keane with Warburton or Dimaio in the No10 and 2 up top.

I reckon we will be bringing in a goal scoring 8 who can play 10 to alongside Turnbull. You don’t need two DMs in front of a back 3 so I think Keane will be in defence and then move in to midfield when Turnbull is unavailable/needs a rest.

STOP PRESS - Alfreton have actually signed a player who has not played for Billy Heath before. Defender Jack Lane from Tamworth.
Former Illkeston defender and wants to move back to this area apparently.

Isn't Connor Dimaio supposed to be an attacking midfielder?

His goal record suggests otherwise. Think he’s more of a passer - what we wanted from Sam Walker but he didn’t have the legs.

Also trialled for us and scored a free kick after similarly standing around doing nothing, but for about 50 mins until he was dragged off

Curzon continue their summer transfer window plan of singing as many former County players as possible - this time Michael Clarke.

top scorer for last 3 seasons john mills has decided to leave, almost certainly to join salisbury in southern league along with creative midfielder pablo heysham, seems we either could'nt or would;nt match the £600+ per week each they are splashing out.

Conference AGM must be soon and the big question has to be will Nuneaton be in this league???

Rumours their whole squad has been released............the port Vale chairman is now looking at buying their ground to help thier owner find funding just so they can scrape through to next season................that is a weird one.

Conference is usually strict on these things, if it was the FL i think they'd drag it out and hope for a takeover, but conference has always seemed quite brutal.

Feel sorry for their fans with the total silence, its all rumours and possibles......the problem is if club folds now their fans have zero time to create a new one.

the stuff with the Vale chairman looking to buy their ground to give them quick funding just seems very weird, not sure if it will be allowed.
