Maybe if the club was owned by supporters or a 'good' owner but Day is not going to continue to pay rates for Gigg lane or the mortgage at that ridiculous interest rate (115% wasn't it) .

But the idea is that Dale sells the club as soon as a properly vetted buyer emerges and proper due diligence is sorted. That would be a condition of any extension until July, and the EFL should continue to be involved throughout the process to ensure that it stays on schedule, and that Dale is doing everything possible to ensure a takeover goes through.

Dale has no intention of selling the club unless he makes a few million at least from it, hence why deals keep collapsing.

Exactly. There is nothing to compel him to sell, so the current situation would just drag on for months until the club breached the terms of its CVA and was wound up in the courts.

But he won't sell unless he gets his payoff and every month that goes by the mortgage owed on Gigg lane rockets. How can anyone force him to do anything he doesn't want to. He's the owner. The EFL have zero leverage except for kicking out Bury but you want them to say, OK, you have a year before we kick you out.

My point is he is never going to spend a penny on the club, just sit on it until a mug offers him his payoff or he can turn Gigg lane into a housing estate. There is absolutely no guarantee a new owner will come through so you can't keep Burys place in the EFL open for a year just on the off chance.

Just stop dragging it out and kick them out of the league. I know it's not the fault of Bury's supporters, but they need kicking out to be made an example of to deter a repeat and for new standards to be set re: appointing new owners.

If Steve Dale walks away at the end of all this with the 900k he's after then what example exactly has been made?

My guess is that the EFL do know this, that kicking Bury out won't stop Dale getting his way. I think if they knew for certain that expelling Bury would hurt Dale in any way they'd have done it already.

And what power to the EFL really have when it comes to club owners? They can't legally stop someone buying a club if that person fails their fit and proper person test so what would they have done to Dale in the first instance if he failed their test but bought the club anyway? Kick Bury out there and then? That's not going to deter assett strippers.

I think the argument would be that the original owner, Day, was a crook but not an asset stripper. If the fit and proper test had been applied to him and was appropriate, he would never have got his hands on the club and this whole process would never have been started.

You could legislate to prevent football clubs from being broken up into several different companies and apply new legal protections to grounds, which would deter asset strippers, but I accept that is outside the remit of the EFL.

Enough is enough. How many more deadlines do Bury want. They overspent getting promotion at the detriment of other clubs who played by the rules. EFL aren't helping by changing rules as they go along. Also, aren't Doncaster supposed to know today(unless EFL has changed that rule as well) about their game Saturday. Bury have inconvenienced enough clubs this season already, or would they like the rest of the season off to get their finances in place then carry on as normal next season as if nothing had happened.

Wouldn't he indirectly pocket £1.75M after selling the debt from the CVA to his son in law for £70K? He's asking for 25% of the purchased debt equaling £1.75M I believe.

Is it Bury? More like the EFL anything to stop them having to actually make a decision and do what they should be doing and govern

Wouldn't surprise me if one of those interested was the failed bid for Notts by fraudster Alex May. The fact Smurf is interested is worrying too

I agree that it may now be best for Bury if they call it a day and start again.

The only people coming in to buy the club at this late hour will just be the vultures. You have to ask why they’re now only showing their hand if they really wanted to buy the club and turn it around.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
If there is one positive to the whole mess it is that with all this publicity and hate thrown in at present it is almost impossible for a developer to get anything on gigg lane.........council in that area just simply couldn’t give it even if not too fussed about their own club (which in fairness most councils are)

That is gonna end up as one awful money eating pain for Dale if he digs in hoping to profit from it.

Plus surely fraud squad are now looking at him in general through sheer bad publicity he’s had

And add Joseph Cala also linked, ex Gateshead 'owner', crook and all round mental case, last seen wanting to build an underwater Casino, fucking hell if them three were your options put a bullet in yourself and start again.

There’s no point in saving the club if those dickheads are the only options, you’ll (unbelievably) end up in a worse position than you are now. Smurf especially.

On sky now, Bury have been expelled. Very, very sad news.
Best wishes to all Bury supporters on rebuilding your club.

Terrible news. Hopefully they can climb back up the leagues as quickly as possible when they restart.

Probably for the best in the long run.

Genuinely gutted for the fans.

What happens now? I assume Bury won't be admitted to any other league this season?
They're gone as a club aren't they?
Gutted for the Bury supporters, absolutely gutted.

They’ll have to reform and start again next season.

Presumably somewhere like the the northern premier league division 1 (so start about 5 divisions below where they are now)

Good luck starting up again, wherever that is from. Visited Bury a couple of seasons ago as Wrexham didn't have a match and I must say that their fans are some of the friendliest and most welcome I've come across. Devastated by this news, despite it being inevitable for some time.

Awful news but unfortunately it looked like this had to happen.

Really feel for the supporters of Bury FC. Can’t imagine what it’s like.

Just horrible and I feel for all the Bury supporters. This is a chance in the long run now for a genuine clean slate, finally can be free of these crooks (and some of the options banded about last minute seemed to fit that description too) and can now properly rebuild.

The EFL should be fucking ashamed of themselves throughout all this though. A very dark day for Football.

It is terrible news, but in a sense an event like this had to happen. The football authorities and the clubs might finally realise that the game in this country is broken and needs serious reform.

However, I am not holding my breath.

I think it will be a bit lower than that. North West Counties I would guess.

I know the Chester supporters enjoyed their years down at those levels, so all is not lost.

Very sad for the fans, the community around it and the staff.

But ultimately on balance, the right decision. History will rightly ultimately judge Steve Dale and his predecessors as the villains, whilst for the EFL this will hopefully be a milestone in terms of improving the organisation and its practices when dealing with takeovers.

I hope Bury reform but I have this awful feeling there won't be the stomach for it, especially if they haven't got Gigg lane.

In an area with so many professional football teams, getting new young supporters interested in in a club so far down the pyramid is going to be nigh on impossible.

Gutted for Bury, I know what this feels like unfortunately. Just shouldn’t happen to any club.

Don’t let it be the end though. We had more in at the Deva on Monday than we often did pre-reformation. The club is the fans.
