Congrats Tranmere, god knows if we will meet next season but in the two games v us i thought you were very good. Norwood will be key to staying up i think but get decent money for him and you can replace him.

He's out of contract, so I can't see him staying and we won't get any money for him. Bigger clubs than us are sniffing around.

We'll definitely need to be shrewd in the transfer market to make up for the loss if he does go.

Good luck Tranmere, get back to where you belong.

Watching the dozen Newport fans who bothered to go celebrate beating us a few years back was one of the most depressing experiences in my life as a Wrexham fan.

Would have thought that would be getting beaten by a village team that no longer exist.

And you conveniently played against 10 men each step of the way. Very ordinary side, even when you beat us 1-0 a point would have been fairer. Poor style of football, one clinincal player. You’ll be straight back down.

2 consecutive promotions is a great achievement. But it really flatters you.

How bitter can you get? It's embarrassing.

Just got back home now and still can't believe it. Thanks to all for the messages much appreciated!

Overall I'd say there are better teams in League Two than us I don't think any TRFC fans will say otherwise. But the fight and determination in this team is something else and that's what got us promoted. Even with 10 men Newport looked a threat and credit to them. We may have got the decision with the pen but you can say the exact same for them when they faced Mansfield in the Semis... That's footy for ya!

We'll be in for a tough season next year but if we can stay up, I really think we'll start to push on again. 18 months ago I was at Maidenhead away seeing us get beat 1-0 as we were mid table in the Conference now next season we're playing the likes of Portsmouth, Ipswich and Bolton. Surreal. Get in!!!

Not sure if anyone has mentioned that Tranmere have probably created some sort of record: their last four play-off matches have all ended with only 21 players on pitch.
Three wins and a draw with one of those wins while they were down to 10 men.

Congrats Tranmere. Looking forward to renewing friendships with you after we're promoted next season.

Can’t believe how much Flynn is complaining about the ref.

The ultimate irony

Feel really sorry for Newport losing in the manner in which they did. Deserved to take the game to penalties. Great team goal from Tranmere although not the best of finishes from Connor.
Not the best of games from us but it’s all about the result.

Get in!

While we're looking at records, I believe we're also the only club currently in the football league to have been promoted in two consecutive playoff finals (Notts also did it), and Manny Monthe has now been promoted in three successive playoff finals in as many years which I'd be interested to know if anyone else has managed.

From a selfish point of view I’m glad Tranmere won as they’d probably be more of a threat than Newport to our target of top 3 for next season.

Aye, they still hate us. If they still exist, the games will be... eventful.

Don't know if the rivalry will be that strong now Aldo and Fat Sam aren't part of the clubs any more, but yeah, definitely looking forward to that game more than any other next season.

Congrats Tranmere! I've just watched the highlights. Gutted for Newport. No doubt had var been in play (or perhaps just a half decent ref - Joyce should never be given these games) they probably would have been up. Some pretty poor decisions went against them.

Great for me though as its a another close fixture next season!

Oh I don't know, I was stuck on a train with a load of Bolton fans two years ago when off to Lincoln. I tried to talk to them and they were initially friendly until they found out who I supported. I did try to say we hadn't played each other in years so forgive and forget etc (we were 2 leagues apart at the time) but they weren't having any of it!

Is that to do with the spat you had with them when Allardyce was manager? I was working at St Cath's at the time.

I think it goes back before the days of Allardyce. Nat Lofthouse made some pretty disparaging remarks about our fans during an FA cup game at Burnden in 1986. Then there was Phil Neal’s sour grapes after we beat them in the playoffs in 91.
Allardyce and Aldridge were definitely the zenith of it all though.

Yep, Bolton getting changed on the coach etc. Hard deciding who our main rivals are - yourselves, Wrexham, even Southport (to those attending games in the 60s) and Oldham (those who started going circa 2005/6) all have a shout (I don't believe we've ever been in the same league as Everton and Liverpool) but depending on who you ask, it's probably Wrexham or Bolton.

Yes, the rivalry with Bolton goes way back, long before Allardyce. I think it really got going in the 89-90 season when we were both pushing for promotion from Division Three, and of course we beat them at Wembley the following year. I had a look on their forums last night and a few of their older guys certainly weren't happy to have us back !

Fat Sam accused us of celebrating too vociferously in front of the Bolton supporters when we beat them in the coca cola cup semi, saying we were deliberately rubbing it in.....

Remember Allardyce instructing his groundsman to move all their advertising boards closer to the pitch so Challinor couldn't get a decent run up for his throw? And the furore around giving towels to the ball boys to dry the ball for him? What a petty spat it was.

Like I said I worked as a psychy nurse on Derby Ward at St Caths from 2001-2009. One Saturday afternoon a patient came in and told me there were 3 or 4 people in the garden. It transpired that they were Bolton fans who'd been chased from PP by Tranmere fans who wanted to tear them apart. We had to get the police to escort them to safety.

The animosity ran for quite a few years and stretches as far back as I remember, but then we went in different directions and they probably thought they'd never play us again. Many of us might have thought that too, to be fair - the thought of playing a league game at the Reebok whilst standing at Guiseley felt like an insurmountable million miles away. I'm not a fan of football violence in the slightest, so hopefully we can keep the rivalry on the pitch this time! We'll be above them for 4 games, at least :woo:

I think it's called the University of Bolton ground or some or fanciful name now.

Well what a weekend that was. Only just got around to catch up on this thread. I actually feel for Newport after that on Saturday, they deserved it just as much as us if not more. We Tranmere fans know how hard losing at the final hurdle hurts.

Disappointed to see a few sly digs and jibes at us on here, whether it’s sour grapes or not I don’t know. I’m not going to stand here and I talk the game up Saturday I know it wasn’t the greatest spectacle but us and Newport were there on merit regardless of opinions. I dont think we’ll be in a relegation fight next season despite the consensus on here we will. Mellon would have began to plan for next season before the result on Saturday and would have a contingency plan for either scenario. Promotion now means we’ll have a bigger budget, higher attendances and be able to attract better players with the lure of league one football. I’ll take a season of relative calm and stability, somewhere between 12th-18th I’d snatch right now.

Those that have wished us well and congratuled us, I thank you. A good few Mansfield fans have shown their sportsmanship and congratulated us and I can imagine them more than any club will feel they deserve league one football more than us. When we came away from Field Mill to a 3-0 defeat in January we were so envious of the position and squad you had. You moved upto 2nd while we dropped to 10th. Yet we’ll play a league higher. Football, bloodyhell.

My club is finally on our way back. No longer is supporting Tranmere a weight on our shoulders. We can be proud again.

Just had a look on the league one forum and it looks quieter than Stadium:MK. Think I’ll stay on here. Can’t wait to read Devon_lad pre season predictions when he declares Exeter champions elect by Christmas.

Has everyone seen the video of Newport throwing bricks at tranmere supporters? We ran them in the end but it shouldn't happen this day and age
