It's actually an incredibly fortunate escape from the FA, big Sam is a poor manager who was utterly doomed to failure - I'm amazed more people didn't see this.

He was also the second most transparently corrupt manager in British manager even before this story broke, #1 was previously disbarred from the England job.

Any sympathy you might have had for him completely disappeared with his crass "entrapment won in the end" comment. A deeply unpleasant individual who got what he deserved.

As for those attacking the media and defending Big Sam - good grief. Where do you find these people? The reason corruption exists in English football is because most of the media are too concerned about the brand to dare talk it down, the Telegraph deserves enormous credit for finally taking some kind of jouranlistic stand.

They took out a big fish but the rest of the scoops will be watered down or even disappear, the Premier League has an almost limitless amount of money and huge reach, they will protect their brand at all costs.

As for the la la fans. Oh yes, I'm sure Willie McKay and Harry Redknapp are all above board. Now excuse me whilst I send all my money to this Nigerian prince.

Nobody suggested that it was...

I'm just surprised that anyone with the best interests of English football at heart would for a second attempt to even partly justify anything that Allardyce has got up to. It may seem melodramatic, but my son plays u8s football and only played 3 games last winter because the pitches were in such a state. He played a game last weekend where one goal was smaller than the other. as that's all they had available. And then the England manager gets a huge payoff?

Because I should base my opinion on emotions instead of reason? I wouldn't have sacked Allardyce in the first place had I been in charge. He waffled a bit about how clubs are getting around the third party rules over dinner and drinks, this really isn't the great sin that people are making it out to be. A public apology and internal disciplining (maybe a fine to throw back into the kitty) would have more than sufficed and a year from now no one would give two shits about any of this.

I'm not basing my opinion on emotions, I'm basing it on the reason that Sam Allardyce as the mangaer of the England national team and employed by the FA should not be telling dodgy agents how to circumvent his own employer's rules.

How would your employer react if you told someone over drinks about the ways your company's rules could be avoided for financial gain?

Slap on the wrist?

Spot on. The dodgy ones probably already know how to circumvent the rules. Sam should have tapped into the innocent agent market, if such a thing exists in football.

Not even. If it occurs outside of your work, you're free to say what you want. Foulmouthing your employer over a bottle of red is hardly punishable by death.

You'll find that's not the case with a lot of employment contracts MM.

Implying that the FA genuinely give this much of a shit about people dodging third-party ownership and not just the optics of it all? I bet half of their staff have gossiped with people about some of the dodgy dealings going on in the game, they just didn't have the misfortune of having it recorded by a journalist. "What would your employer do" is not really a counter argument. The FA chose to fire him when they didn't have to. They could have given him a fine instead of a payout.

At least if you're an England manager you know that you're safe for most of the year, because any scandal will only ever be printed right before an international break so as to cause maximum damage.

Isn't that a threat on free speech? Coz if you are forced to say nice things about employer even under the influence of alcohol, ecstasy, meth and anal sex then the whole drug abuse system falls out the window. I certainly did and I have kept my job (ok, I change employers a lot but for purely selfish reasons).

I only saw the Telegraph recorded footage where Sam had had a drink or two. Do you have a link to the one where he is talking while under the influence of ecstasy, meth and anal sex?

I'm asking for a friend.
