I think we're looking better than okay, I'd say it's easily the strongest squad we've had since being down here (especially if we sign Caton). With everyone fit our subs bench will be very strong, for a start. I do have the same reservations over our lack of pace at CB though and I'm surprised that hasn't been looked at. I get the feeling Cowley will go with Howe alongside McCombe, as he's got a bit of pace, but he's far too error prone and his positioning is all over the place.
I agree GG, think it's the best squad we have had down here, Caton would be a terrific final piece to a decent looking jigsaw. I do also worry about pace at the centre of our defence and in an ideal world would have someone quick to partner McCombe as not many will win the ball in the air against him. Would still pick Waterfall over Howe because I reckon what you lose in mobility you gain more in defensive ability. Would only be using Beevers as cover, Habergham (should) be a damn better LB than Lee and Wood will be his usual combative self.

It's looking good to me, the biggest difference over last season is we probably have not one, but two of the best managers in this league. Am really hoping we can turn all the positivity around the city in the appointment of the Cowleys into points and league position on the pitch.
Maybe so. I just think if we're going to be playing higher up the pitch, the last thing we want is a CB pairing that has no pace and we don't have that with any combination available.

We probably won't be as direct as at times last season to Rhead, but he has more to his game than that and if he leaves, I can't see anyone stepping up to fill that role. That's not to say we wouldn't try and replace him but the Marriott and Margetts will be relying on Rhead doing the physical work.

In an ideal world, I'd still like us to sign a left sided player, a CB with pace and a target man type, or at least a more physical striker than Margetts or Marriott (would we have signed Marriott and/or Margetts if Hoban been here?). Someone in the ilk of DSY who'd be happy just to get stuck in and accepting he'd not score many.

26 players (25 with injury) but Cooper has said he wants to trim this with players going out on loan.
Anthony Jeffrey sure to go on loan.
Youngsters Louis McGrory (2nd year pro) and Joe Stokes (1st year pro) may also go on loan.
Initially thought Kieffer Moore may go on loan given the competition, but he looked reborn and very good last night. Think we've got a target man to replace Parkin (perhaps not as good, but certainly cheaper). Some shrink under the threat of competition and others grow, early indications are the lad has character.

You forgot Darren Carter.

Goalkeepers: Nathan Ashmore, Jonathan Miles

Defenders: Matt Fish, Ollie Boulding (academy), Mark Phillips, Dave Winfield, Kenny Clark, Reiss Greenidge, Jack Connors, Karn Miller-Neave (academy)

Midfielders: Dean Rance, Stuart Lewis, John Paul Kissock, Jordan Parkes, Billy Holmes (academy), Anthony Cook, Sean Shields, Sam Deering, Hugo Atkinson (academy)

Strikers: Danny Kedwell, Aaron McLean, Charlie Sheringham, Bradley Bubb

We ended up releasing about 12 players including Joe Howe who I would have kept (gone to Bromley since) last month after failing to go up for the third time in a row and added four new signings in Mark Phillips (Braintree), Dave Winfield (York), Jack Connors (Dagenham) and Bradley Bubb (Oxford City).

Got three players on trial currently, Ivan Lopes who was Academy player of the year for Leatherhead last season and two youngsters who have been released by Football League clubs. I think we will sign 1, maybe 2, more players.

I'd expect some of the academy lads to get game time at some point. Some good prospects there, Miller-Neave especially.

I assume some of the forwards will play out wide, but from that you can see where our manager's priorities are.

From Gary Waddock's pre-Hampton interview it seems that we are only looking to add 1 or 2 players (one surely has to be a backup goalkeeper), which hopefully will be done next week which would give us 3 games against football league opposition to prepare for Barrow.

Just really need another striker or two to finish it off, be interesting to see if this Akintunde lad could fill a void there. Not to forget that Ian Sharps is also registered on as player assistant manager in case of emergency. Hunt is to be deployed in midfield this season with Horwood occupying the left back slot.

He doesn't look the best. Not sure what Mills was thinking. I reckon he'll be gone by Christmas.

Dover fans may disagree, but I'm not sure he was that great there. Wasn't great at Chelmsford either. How on earth has he got a club in a higher league?!

Possibly 1 more (Jordan Evans LB/LM) to sign. A few players who can cover multiple positions. Pretty happy with how the squad are shaping up, I think we look stronger and more balanced than last season.

There are also two first year pros training with the first team: Leo Smith and Jordan Davies. Both are Wales U19 internationals and look decent prospects.

Added trialist Craig Carney to the squad who has done well in pre season and Scott Spencer should also rejoin hopefully as we need someone like him.

It looks like this is what we'll start our season with:

Goalkeepers
Ty Belford (Season long loan from Swindon)
Ryan Crump (from Blackburn Rovers)

Defence
Josh Thompson
Andrai Jones
Ross White (from Wrexham)
Neil Ashton (from Barrow)
Keil O'Brien (from Bury)
Joe Kearns (from Crewe)
Chris Doyle (from Morecambe)

Midfield
Gary Jones
Liam Nolan
Ashley Grimes (from Barrow)
Jonathan Royal (from Wrexham)
Billy Whittle (from our under-18's)

Forwards
Jamie Allen
Connor McCarthy
Louis Almond
James Gray (from Wrexham)
James Caton (from Shrewsbury)
John Cofie (from Telford)
Andy Bishop

Looks like it could be the best forward line we've had since Tony Gray and Shaun Whalley. Might be an unsettled defence initially with so many new players there, they've all been with us since early on in pre-season though.

No idea about the standard of Conf North, but i think with this team and a good manager in Martin Gray we should fair quite well. Give me 7th place, a good run in the FA Cup and FA Trophy and a completed Blackwell Meadows ground all graded and up to standard for conference north and I will be a very happy quaker.

Expect two of Flyde, Stockport, Harrogate or Halifax to be going up this year.

Not very impressed with their signings. Doubt they'll even make play-offs.

Probably not, it's a tough league.

Turnbull and Gillies are both decent players who cpuld have stayed in the National League.
