Looks like we're taking a good look at Michael Jolley.

Makes sense. With the £1m in compensation we've got for the Cowleys it means we'll have £999,995 at our disposal in the January transfer window.
That'll cover Akinde's (pen) bonus.

Hmmm, until the Cowleys have achieved something with Huddersfield though, they haven't really outdone Hurst.

Not sure on the far better in big games opinion either. Yep they won the EFL Trophy, but aren't you forgetting the Grimsby v Braintree playoff semi?
Meant big games generally rather than head to head. Even Grimsby fans said themselves that he wasn't a big game manager per se.

Cowley sides always turned up in the big games, cup or league.

Cowley never met with ME. Paper talk at best. He was never first, nor second choice; behind the likes of Lampard (who held talks) and ultimately Hurst, who ME wanted from the off but agreed to wait until after Shrews playoff final before making any kind of approach.

I think we all know that Ipswich had tapped up Hurst WELL before the play-off final - there had been rumblings in the press since at least January. Once the dust had settled our CEO said that Hurst had cleared his desk out before they even set off for Wembley for the PO final. The only good thing for us out of the whole saga was getting ~£2M for Nolan and Nsiala which we spend on our training ground

Yeah, I get that point. Hurst has had more kind of last chance/do or die big games than Cowley though. Going up automatically, instead of playoffs generally means you've got a big game but it's not the be all and end all if you don't win. I think the head to head big games they've had had this element. I'm not disagreeing with you, I just think Hurst has managed in quite a few more high pressure matches. Ones that were decided by fine margins too. On the face of it though, his record isn't great in big games.

Instead of spending the full million on a new manager maybe you should repay some of your loyal fans with say £1000 given to each one who attended games before 2016, and then with the £500,000 left over you should be able to get a quality manager in.

Good idea, I await the cheque.

I like this sort of scheme to reward fans. As I'm a greedy so-and-so who doesn't like sharing, I encourage Rochdale to share between the away fans who attended BOTH Pre season friendlies at Keith and Cove Rangers in 1992... :)

After having a look at Vitals, its been a while since I’ve seen a such a bunch of ungrateful fans. They’ve taken them up two divisions, prepared them as best as possible for the new season and left for a club far more likely to make it at Championship level than Lincoln. Beggars belief some of the stuff I’ve read on there. How quickly opinions change...

Shock, horror, football clubs fans forums hold extreme and silly views! Would the fishy be in any way shape or form different should roles be reversed? No. Best stick to here eh?

Hurst never got slagged off after promotion back to the league. Ever...

EDIT - It's not too bad on Vitals anyway, bar the odd poster and even then it's down to DC denying interest in the job but still going less than a week later.

I think it’s more the fact that fans thought the Cowleys would do as they said, would take Lincoln as far as they could and only leave for a ‘perfect fit’. No-one expected them to leave mid season. We were top of the league a couple of weeks ago so who knows what could have happened by the end. I question if Hudders are the perfect fit too, yes they are a much bigger club in a higher league, but not the perfect scenario IMO. In some ways it would have been better for them to leave pre season.

As for stuff aimed at them, it’s pretty minor really. If you think Lincoln fans shouldn’t dare have an opinion, you ought to have a look at Luton after Jones left for Stoke.

Hurst took 5 years to scrape us through the playoffs. Cowleys won you 2 titles, an FLT and an FA Cup QF in nearly half the time. A slight difference I’d say.

i agree, I’d say the majority have as amicable as expected. It’s rather amusing to see the ‘newer’ posts on there with the ‘fuck ‘em, they never cared attitude’. Short memories.
FWIW, I think they’re good managers who’ve taken a huge gamble. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them back in a couple of years.

You were top of the league after a handful of fixtures (when it doesn't really indicate anything), but you had played more games than many other teams and had had a kinder run of early games than many others. You weren't going to finish anywhere near promotion this season regardless if the Cowley's had stayed or not. If they had stayed and you had finished mid-table, any offers from Championship clubs would have dried up pretty quickly.

Perfect timing for them and anything about a club being a 'perfect fit' is just bs.

A kinder run? Southend and Accrington, fair enough. But Fleetwood, Rotherham, MK and Doncaster isn't particularly kind (not disagreeing with your wider point r.e. where we'd finish).

Hahaha, the 5 Stages of Grief thread is an absolute belter. Jamez Hanson has just got L2 POTM but this "in their blue ties" quote cracked me up and is my highlight of the season so far:
Newporter said:
I do a bit of counselling and I recognise in my own feelings that I'm seeing DC/NC 's leaving as a loss, similar to losing someone in the family . So I know that people in this situation do benefit from knowing about the 5 stages of grief:
1. Denial and isolation; 2. Anger; 3. Bargaining; 4. Depression; 5. Acceptance.

Glen8 said:
Seeing the Cowleys focus on Huddersfield tells us it's all over, and we have to move on. I don't think anyones thinking about them today

Newporter said:
seeing DC/NC in their blue ties at the Huddersfield press conference is going to hurt like hell.

buckielugger said:
Stage 4 depression. And will remain so.

Bristolimp said:

I support the imps roller coaster - sometimes it’s up sometimes it’s down, but it is always imps.

Impish said:
Believe me, it helps by not going on any of the Hudders related stuff.
Impish :lol::lol::lol:

This is all just off page one, too. I'm saving the rest for later. You know it's ridiculous when Scotimp is the one talking sense.

Vitals is probably no different to any other club's message board but fuck me, it's frustrating.

I had the temerity to defend journalists last week when it was reported the Cowleys were in talks with Wednesday (which they were). But Sky were just lying apparently (although it wasn't them who initially reported it). When I tried telling them that's not really how it works, I was told football reporters can't be trusted because of journalists who hack phones...

Now, I know journalism will never be a popular profession, but the level of stupidity on there astounded me. I was also told it was the media's fault for giving Donald Trump a bad reputation

I guess now I know why I stopped posting there about 10 years ago. Club message boards are just a cesspit of incoherent, often racist, mindless stupidity.

Yep Vitals is no different to most boards tbf though less cringey than Banter. The Fishy for instance is no different, though they aren’t bothered about Lincoln and don’t see us as a rival (9 pages later about the Cowleys to Huddersfield).

Haha you're getting it in the neck a bit lately, aren't you? I saw Charlie Adam's Tweet that got all the Blackpool fans on your case last week (?). Does that bother you, or do you just brush that off fairly easily?

Since when did you do Twitter?

It's part of the job unfortunately but it's not particularly fun. It plays on my mind every now and then but you learn to move on from it fairly quickly. It's especially frustrating when you know you're in the right, but I was never going to get involved in a Twitter spat with a Blackpool legend as there was only ever going to be one winner there!

Yeah, exactly. Charlie Adam could say anything and they'd have his back. I guess you have to look at it from the perspective that the fact that you have this as a problem in your career is a sign that you've done well in a competitive field. Oh...and I don't do Twitter really but one of my mates (the guy I went to Charlton with last season) is a Blackpool fan and I'd told him I know you online so he Whatsapp'd me the thread.
