So first home game and it's a biggie as League 2 GIANTS Oldham roll into town. They are therefore the first away fans to sample our new and improved away end. The lucky bastards.

On the pitch fresh from our SENSATIONAL performance standing around watching Grimsby self destruct last week confidence should be high. Got a few ex-latics in our side including Carl Winchester who was pretty popular I gather.

Should be a good gate (for us) what with them bringing 1k + so hopefully we can put in a performance and give them a decent game.

I am sure you will give us a game as no game will be a given.
Its hard to predict as we are missing a few of the more experienced and quality players but the team that lost to MK last week showed some promise and made MK work very hard for their win.
The league is a new experience so we don't really know what to expect in truth, 10 games in should give us a better idea.
There will be a decent following making the long trip so there should be a decent atmosphere, hopefully the team will respond with a tough 2-1 Oldham win

Good test this to see if last week was all down to Grimsby hitting self-destruct or our TOTAL FOOTBALL rattling them into errors. Win here and I really will start wondering if we can make a fist of the season. We sound a bit more settled than Oldham too.
No breaking the new half shed, Latics fans!

We are not settled yet but that doesn't mean we can't win.
With a full squad at Buns disposal I feel we will compete, until then we are hoping the players filling in will do the business.
As for our fans, mostly a friendly bunch depending on who the opposition is, this will be a friendly occasion in my mind although there will be some nougats out, no doubt.

A lot depends on who’s back in the squad. Missing Taylor, Clarke, Dummigan, Fane, Baxter and Byrne for varying reasons is not a good way to start the campaign.

Baxter is the only one rumoured to be back in contention for a spot but he alone will give us a much needed injection of quality.

Looking forward to it but will surprised if we get anything more than a point.

This will be our first taste of a league two side as MK Dons came down with us and are favourites for the league. I think we might nick this 1-0 with a backs to the wall performance seeing as we are very depleted I actually think FGR could be the dark horses and have a good season but what do I know. WABLO

Hopefully we can continue with our much improved home form of the second half of last season. Tomorrow may also give us a clue if last week's away win was the start of something more promising, we did look very useful. Best to keep a lid on those thoughts.

we usually have the big red bus as an away bar I believe, not sure if it's open after the match, there's always the Green Man home bar, that's usually quiet after the match.

Away win here. Even though we lost last week I -unlike alot of our fan base - don't actually think we are far off. It's more a case of missing key components (which are in our squad, just not necessarily on the pitch. A leader at the back and a creative influence in the middle and we won't be far off.

We showed enough last week though to give me confidence we can muddle on through until they are back though

Looks like same starting line up as last week, no surprise. Had a text from the club saying water board was doing emergency works at the bottom of the lane up to the ground, wonder if kick-off will get delayed. It's tight enough at the best of times.

Two more injured for us. That's 8 first teamers missing, albeit Baxter is back on the bench.

Pretty uneventful so far, other then our goal.

Oldham got some proper units in their side, so we need to keep the ball and make them chase it,

well on top this half. Need that second. Baxter looks useful for them.

Wow their keeper was on form, denied us with several world class saves. We played exceptionally well again first half, with little to threaten us in return. Second half Oldham, steped up the pressure, leading to us conceding a penalty. Oldham are well organised but not to much obvious threat up front. They should do well though.

We should have been out of site, not sure why our goal second half was disallowed. Sadly we were laking ideas when the pressure was applied, we didn't respond to the their pressing. But really you just have to take these on the chin.

We were absolutely dire. Can’t believe you FGR fans on here are giving us any credit. Can’t be helped with as many as 8 first teamers out but that was so poor from us. Played for and got a point that we didn’t deserve - daylight robbery but we’ll take it

During a short 5 minute period in middle of game, FGR were top of League and the home fans were obviously very pleased, so sang loudly to let the world know.
So loud did they sing it that it was heard at Prenton Park where local rivals Cheltenham were at same time losing to Tranmere and rock bottom of same table.
Reading their forum for posts during that time period is hilarious.
They were in a state of disbelief and our own Chris FGR gets a [dis]honourable mention.

I think I’d rather stand on the mountainous remains of millions of veggie burger than been seen in that monstrosity

First half I thought we were excellent, putting the away defence under plenty of pressure and forcing them into quite a few mistakes, deserving of the lead from the boot of Reid. Second half Oldham definitely upped their game and we sat back a bit at times, however it was their keeper who was called on more often, with one brilliant save from a Reece Brown curler that was destined for the top corner of the goal. He did blot his copybook a little with some time-wasting towards the end of the game. No complaints about the penalty, though the reaction to the goal from the away fans was more like a team who had just won the league, rather than one who might have considered themselves a bit lucky to head home with a point. If we can play for most of the season like we did in the first half then we should be safe from relegation, or at least not have as nervy an end as the last one.

Are you not allowed to celebrate a late equaliser at the football any more? Trust me after the years of shite we’ve been served up, any chance of a bit of a celebration is taken with both hands. Doesn’t matter if we were lucky to head home with a point or not (and we were - very), a goal is a goal. May as well give up if you can’t enjoy those moments.

Of course you are, and I have done the same myself and enjoyed the moment, it was just an observation and comment...which is surely what a forum is for.

Trying to avoid being too optimistic, but after a season of pure struggle, efforts so far are lets say more promising, a lot more in fact.

As to the extended bus shelter, it is of course both completely tin pot but understandble.
In fact that could be cut & paste and recycled as a bicycle shed when we hopefully get the planed stadium move. Really don't want to spend a penny more than necessary on improving a stadium that will be flattened in a couple of years. We'll have to live with the embarrassment & ridicule in the mean time. It really is bloody awful though.:ffs:
