All for giving people a fair crack but you also have to be ruthless, Stoneman isn't a hill worth dying on.

As for the ridiculous post-match comment about no-one making runs domestically - nonsense, there are plenty and just because Lyth, Jennings, Stoneman didn't work out, doesn't mean someone like Gubbins won't. I also agree with Nick Compton's recent assertions around a sense of urgency as you're actually trying to find two new openers rather than one. Two new (preferably young) openers with the solidity of Cook & Root at 3 & 4 might be just the ticket.

England also need a proper coach because the hands-off 'go out there and play your natural game fellas' style of Bayliss and Farbrace isn't good enough when half your team haven't seen a red ball in months and the other half are out of nick against 80mph county seamers.

Much more positive from the bowlers with Broad answering a few critics .

Hopefully the batsmen will back them up !

Closing in on their total nice and steadily now we've finally got going, despite the loss of Root. Malan and Bess looking alright at the moment.

Shame Root couldn't get a decent score for the Headingley faithful.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Bess can get in the side as a specialist batsman even if his bowling isn’t up to much. Looks extremely assured.

128 ahead with 3 wickets in hand - hopefully get to lead by 180-200.

More useful runs from the lower order .

Great win for England. Good all round performance and really pleased for Bess to pick up some wickets. Just a shame it’s only a 2 Test series as feels incomplete without a decider.

High scoring win for Lancashire in the Roses game - not sure if it will help them get through to the knock out stages.

Scotland with a record score v England - Bairstow was leading the run chase scoring well but just got out.

Essex are the Derby County of white ball cricket. Always seem to get through the groups then bottle it the moment they play a knockout game. Big win for Kent, that top seven looks intimidating and Worcestershire without Moeen for the semi final. A Kent v Yorkshire final should get a few bums on seats at Lords.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are forfeiting a test match against the Windies in protest of the umpires changing the ball.

Way way too good now at one dayers for anyone, (scotland) all about doing it on the big stage next year though.

We’ll find a way to bottle it next year no doubt. Shame because it will be the golden summer of English Cricket if we won both the World Cup and The Ashes. A disgrace that they won’t be live on terrestrial TV either, we’ll never get a better opportunity than 2019 to attract more folk to Cricket.

Great to see the best gloveman in the country showing off his very under rated skills with the bat on a big stage today. If it wasn't for all the Alec Stewart fuelled bollocks about Foakes he might get the recognition his talent warrants.

I think we're still a bit short of runs, and Kent will get them, but at least it's a competitive total.

Ben Duckett didn't play though?

Super Kent!

Tickets booked, we’re on our way.

First Lords final in over a decade.
