Just got into *shels, can't believe it's taken me this long given that I love the originating band Mahumodo and splinter band Devil Sold His Soul. If you're a fan of crushing metal mixed with stunningly beautiful ambience take a listen to *shels album "Sea of the Dying Dhow", it's an absolute masterpiece.

My vinyl cleaning activities took me down this blind alley. So I have to offer the original:

along with a memory of Glenn Cornick

Is this metal?
Various "experts" have suggested that Vanilla Fudge were the link that evolved psychedelia into heavy rock - inspiring Deep Purple among others and which took us through to Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Jethro Tull might be more of a stretch, until you listen to some of their earlier tracks.

I just thought that you guys might like to hear some of the roots of Metal. When would you say the genre was invented? Back on topic -

Went to metal festival called Brutal Assault in Jaromer, central Czech Republic. I'm not a metal person but I don't mind it as I listen to rock that is quite hard so metal isn't that far away in terms of sound/noise. My friend who lives in Brno wanted to go see Mayhem - a Norwegian death/metal band fascinated by death with members killing each other - so I tagged along. It was decent really. I saw groups like Dillinger, Emperor, Opeth, Carcass, While She Sleeps (English band who put on a great show: the crowd was very calm most of the time but that band got them moving), Decapitated (absolutely fucking shit that was), Tiamat (a hilarious Swedish band with the singer stoned out of his mind, not managing a single song, talking out of arse and mistaking a flashlight with a full moon!) and finally Mayhem.
The only thing that was shite was the weather on Friday. I never slept in a tent before and a storm broke out which really pissed me off. I'm glad I stayed until Saturday though as this is where I got to see the best bands.

Only one member of Mayhem (Burzum) killed a fellow member (Euronymous), MM, the other death in the band was a suicide. Bloody exaggerating!!!!

Love Veil of Maya, went to a gig with friends knowing nothing about them and had the best time!

I highly recommend a band called Power Trip. Think 80s thrash metal combined with hardcore. Really good!

Been listening to Uncle Acid and the deadbeats recently and really enjoying their style. Their albums Blood Lust, Mind Control and The Night Creeper are all worth a listen even if they are generally a bit samey and I'm looking forward to listening to their lastest album Wasteland.

This has been the best recommendation in this thread so far. Been listening to all their stuff on Spotify for last few days and love it all. Manifest Decimation is their better album for me but love Nightmare Logic too and the compilation of their earlier stuff. Crossbreaker is one of my new favourite metal tunes ever.

Been listening to you lot on there too, GFCSludge, good stuff.
